I think this is the best CD I own!!!!,

I was never really that interested in Enrique Iglesias (though my aunt loves Julio, Enrique's father) until I bought it for less than a nickel (a music store was going out of business)! After about 3 weeks of not touching it, I finally decided to give it a try while cleaning up my room. I fell in love with the CD afterwards. Enrique is very talented and writes all his songs!! And I say this is the best CD because it's not like my other favorites where there are a lot of songs I like on the CD and then there are those that I don't. On this CD I don't have to skip tracks 'cause I love them all!!1. Escape - 5/5 Extremely catchy! Very good song! Great song to start off with 2. Don't Turn Off the Lights - 4/5 Not as good as the first track 3. Love To See You Cry - 3.5/5 Lyrics sound creepy. OK 4. Hero - 5/5 Great song, very heartwarming. Hit single. 5. I Will Survive - 3/5 At first I thought it was Gloria Gaynor's song, but it's not. OK 6. Love 4 Fun - 4/5 Upbeat. Very good song to make up your dance grooves to 7. Maybe - 10/5 The BEST song on the album! When I first listened to this song, I felt like I knew all the words!! I was singing along with him and didn't care that I was making up the lyrics! Very very catchy!! 8. One Night Stand - 4.5/5 Great. This is the name of his tour 9. She Be The One - 3/5 Not the best on the album. Bearable 10. If the World Crashes - 7/5 Second best on album (can ya tell?) It's really easy to fall into his mood and sing along. Great song 11. Escape (Spanish) - 4/5 I don't understand what he's saying but it still sounds sexy!!! 12. Don't Turn Off the Lights (Spanish) - see above 13. Hero (Spanish) - see above ***As always, I suggest you listen to the track samples before buying CD's and then being disappointed. Though you won't be with this one! :)

ESCAPE into Enrique's crazy love world,
This review is from: Escape (Audio CD)
Enrique returns with his sophmore effort ESCAPE. After a 2 year break and the muli-platinum sucess of his english debut album ENRIQUE, he kicks it up a notch. This album is awesome. It's upbeat, dancy vibe draws you in with one listen. ESCAPE is dance/pop bliss with touches of electronica. On the lyrics side of things, Enrique presents himself as the shy, submissive, and sometimes dominant singer that he is. On ESCAPE he likes lusty women that take control on songs like "one night stand", "she be the one." The slight S&M themed "love to see you cry" in which he states, "I don't know why/but I love to see you cry" and "the sweetest pleasure is pain". In "escape" he chants "you can run/you can hide/but you can't escape my love." Besides all of that playfulness, ESCAPE offers some tender moments as well. Tracks like the hit "hero" and "maybe" are beautifully done. Enrique has an intimate, sometimes off-key voice through out ESCAPE. His vocals are strong and clear and his accent adds sort of an akward, destinct quality to each track. ESCAPE is pure fun.

I'm really not an Enrique fan. I think that his voice is one of the weakest in the industry. But the songs he chooses to record for his CD's are first rate. I was in Tower Records and they were blasting the track "One Night Stand" (produced by Metro, it could have been sung by anyone including Cher). And you know what? I felt compelled to purchase the CD. "Escape" is a solid offering. I'm afraid to say it, but it's one of the better things I've purchased in a while, and the songs are quite addictive. Enrique's vocals are all over the map (this can be good and bad). In the 80's throwback "Don't Turn Off The Lights" he manages to squeeze some frightening Mariah Carey notes in at the end. Where did this idea come from? Who cares....because it manages to effectively spice up the CD. I can't really find a bad song in the bunch. To be honest, I think "Hero" is the least exciting, least interesting song here. So if you actually like "Hero" then you're sure to love the album, because many of the other tracks are real winners. I think that the main title track "Escape" is absolutely teriffic. (i like it almost as much as Rhythm Divine, which I thought was beautiful) The lyrics are fun, and Enrique makes the most out of his paper thin voice. (side bar: I'm sure the producers on this CD got paid for overtime working on cleaning up the notes). If you want something light and fun, then pick up "Escape." Just don't go looking for a voice. May I suggest Cristian Castro. (now that's a voice!)

Inspiring, Erotic, Inventive: Escape,

Enrique Iglesias. Well, surely you've heard of him, but you're debating why (or if) you should buy his latest CD. Yes, you should. From the emotional, introspective debut single "Hero," Enrique charms his fans with the soft, soothing melody. The rest of the album is comparatively different, but just as good. Highlights inculde:1. Escape: You can't escape Enrique, or his love. This song comes on very smoothly, then progresses to a spicy salsa beat. It has nice lyrics and is overall an excellent track. 3. Love To See You Cry: This is a very interesting song, I really like the tune. It seems to go on a while, though. 7. Maybe: This is my second favorite. It's so soft and delicate, so remorseful. It's just a beautiful song you have to hear. 8. One Night Stand: Another winner. Enrique wanted something more from the relationship, but it's quite obvious it was only a "fling." It's got a wonderful beat.

Some good tracks, but not super.,
This review is from: Escape (Audio CD)
Let's examine 'Escape', track by track.1. Escape (8/10) Great way to start off the album. Nice, fresh, dance track. I love the beat, and that "yoku ooooOoooo" towards the end is brilliant and catchy. 2. Don't Turn Off the Lights (4/10) I was really disappointed with this track. It's just not Enrique caliber. Sounds like a combination of Nelly (the rapper) & Nelly (Furtado). 3. Love To See You Cry (6/10) I like the guitar acoustics. This song sounds a bit like Modjo's "Lady", which is ok. I like this song, smooth, relaxing, love, dance, song. Catchy lyrics. 4. Hero (7/10) I didn't REALLY love this song, although it was such a huge success. Yes, it is catchy, and a beautiful song, but Enrique isn't the best ballad singer. 5. I Will Survive (8/10) Brilliant melody. Violin and piano mixes well. But it seems like it's missing something. Not sure what, though. Maybe a heavy beat like 'Escape'? 6. Love 4 Fun (7/10) The opening sound gives you an 80's feel. Then a 'never heard before' beat comes in. I like this song. Guilty feeling. The trumpets work well here, too, along with the guitar. 7. Maybe (8/10) Beautiful piano opening. Very catchy song. I like it. 8. One Night Stand (6/10) Your regular club hit. This song is ok. I don't LOVE it, but it's fairly catchy. Has the Cher 'Believe' sound. 9. She Be The One (9/10) This track is amazing. I love it. Of course, the title is grammatically incorrect, but whatever. It's extremely catchy, and I love it. The beat, guitar, it's all good. 10. If the World Crashes (8/10) VERY catchy chorus. I like this song as well. "if the world crashes down.... over me...!!" Nice melody. 11. Escape (Spanish) Nice to have this in Spanish. I'm sure Enrique did not produce this album to change the face of music. He just created something for us to have fun with, and I think he accomplished that. Overall rating of "Escape" 7/10

Great second english album by Enrique.,

This is an amazing album by Enrique. It is one of his best and most theatrical works. This is a pop album that really got him a lot of attention, and made him a bigger star then he already was. Escape is one of Enrique's most mainstream records. He scored massive #1's with the songs "Hero" and "Escape". "Love To See You Cry" was another great single, and while sounding very groove still managed to sound very latin. A very smooth track for the album. "Maybe" was yet another single and a nice ballad. "Don't Turn Off The Lights" was a great Rock/Pop song and was also a single. "Escape" itself was one of Iglesias's most popular songs along with "Hero". It was a great Pop track and got plenty of radio play. Instead of giving info on the singles ( which you've probably all heard already) ill stick to commenting on the non-single songs on the album.
It's not just the great singles from the album that make it an enjoyable listen. There are also non-single tracks on the album that make it fun to listen to. This I believe is part of the key to it's massive success. "Love 4 Fun" is one of the albums fun pop tracks and aswell as having a great tune and lyrics it has a great bridge. "When you don't have a place to go, and everything feels the same. I can change what you think you know. Makin' Love my way". "I'm makin' love for fun. Why would you do it any other way ?" Great song to listen to. very fun and uplifting. "I Will Survive" is another fun song off the album. It has a great atmosphere to it, and it is about a girl who has cheated with Enrique, but he know's he will survive. This song like many on Escape just has a great tune, great lyrics. Great everything. It's a real fun track to listen to. "One Night Stand" is a good song. It sounds quite groove with a bit of guitar in it. the lyrics go "Now i'm left up in my lonely room. She left her underwear and her perfume. I never thought that it could've felt this good, and I still feel her lips upon my fingertips." The lyrics are quite suggestive, but the song is not to deep, because it has a great tune and beat to it. "If The World Crashes Down" is another great sounding song off Escape. It has good guitars in it, another great tune like many of the songs on this album. The lyrics are also uplifting. "You make me strong. You make me weak. You lift me off my feet. You give me hope when all my dreams seem like their out of reach. You make me understand the way the perfect love should be. You take me to a place so high, I never wanna' leave." This is one of my favourite songs from Escape because it is so uplifting. "You Whisper in my ear the words You're so close tonight. Hold me Tonight. and when the pain is holding me, your touch sets me free. Sometimes I think of all the things I should've said. I hope it's not too late. Wanna' make you understand. If the world crashes down over me. I know that my life is complete. Cos' iv'e held you in my arms all night. Cos' I can't imagine life without you by my side" There are also some great deep guitar riffs in this song. "She Be The One" is another good song. It sounds a little latin, and very cool. It talks about the girls who all the guys want, but there seductive and dangerous. "Don't fool yourself. You Can't stop it if you try. She's gonna take you low. She's gonna take you high. never get enough." goes the lyrics. "She hits the club, and everybody watches. and when she dances everybody want's it. The kinda' girl you kinda' gotta watch. She might just get away. She makes you wait. She likes to play that kinda' game. She takes your money. You gladly give it all away. She makes you nasty. Even wanna' feel pain. Then she'll make you born again". Great song on a great album. Escape is a fun record and one of Enrique's best. It delivers some great Pop Music. It is a great listen, and a must own for any music fan. ENRIQUE FANS MUST HAVE THIS ALBUM !!!

I never really listened to Enrique before, but after listening to "ESCAPE" on the radio, I do believe I became an instant fan! I also like "Don't turn off the light" from hearing both songs on the radio and after listening to the samples, I am going out to buy the CD. The music is very upbeats and gets you to feeling good, and no matter where I am I must dance. I am glad to say I am a new fan of his music.

I really don't want to like this guy but I do. His music is extremely catchy, unfortunately his lyrics are pretty cliched and often stupid at times like "I Will Survive" (cliched) and "Love 4 Fun" (downright stupid). Enrique is certainly no Shakespeare by any means but he puts out some of the catchiest pop songs I have ever heard like the title track and "One Night Stand". In my corner of the world, pop music has just as much of a place in music as say music by Radiohead and PJ Harvey do. The only difference is that I don't take Enrique's music as seriously as I would with Radiohead and PJ Harvey. "Escape" is a pure pop pleasure for the ears. The infectious melodies don't ever leave a person's head after listening to this cd. My personal favorite tracks are "Escape", "One Night Stand", "If the World Crashes Down", and "Love 4 Fun" (as corny as the lyrics and title are). If anything, "Escape" is a perfect antidote to what ails society and distracts the listener from the ugliness of reality.

!Aye, Muy Sabroso!,

Ok, just a point of clarification---this is NOT Enrique's "second" cd or his "sophomore" release. He has approximately five other previous cd's, with a couple of greatest-hits and remix cd's thrown in as well. BUT, maybe because he only has one previous cd in English, that causes some confusion for others. This cd is typical Enrique. It has incredible vocals and musical arrangements, with broad-sweeping sounds at times. It almost fills the room with sound and emotion combined. Then, there are other times when the beats are simply too good to stand still. If you like Enrique, and try to avoid the CONSTANT shake-your-bon-bon music of Ricky Martin (not that it's bad, but it's a little TOO much), then you'll like this one. Not as tropical sounding as Marc Anthony, not as boom-chicka-boom as Ricky Martin. Somewhere in between. And it works, as always, amazingly well. Those who already have his last cd, but want to look into getting more, check out his "Cosas..." cd. It's all in Spanish, but VERY, VERY good. Also, Enrique's younger brother has a cd out too. It is very, very good. If you can find it (it's kind of hard to come across), I'd recommend it. |
