4.0 out of 5 stars The new Finnish Invasion!, March 26, 2003

Another excellent entry in the increasingly prolific world of Finnish Gothic metal, this one a collaboration between the guitarist from Sentenced and the vocalist for Charon. Turns out to be more similar to Charon than Sentenced (i.e., not as heavy as Sentenced, more melodic like Charon). Like all these bands out now (Entwine, To Die For, etc.) they all owe a bit of a nod to Finland's H.I.M. (the biggest of them all in popularity) but it sure beats another regurgitation of what we get ad nauseum here in the U.S., which is boring rap-metal and grunge ...-... like Creed. The major American record companies cry about increasingly lost revenues while refusing to sign bands like this, and instead flood the market with Linkin Park wanna-be's, teen popmetal, and other flavor-of-the-month ..... Sure, blame it on downloading instead of overpriced CD's from talentless artists, and that's what you're gonna continue to get! OK, I'm diverting - this is heavy, melodic and female-friendly metal, not unlike the kind of music OZZY does, in fact - you just gotta go find it! (The Century Media label is a great place to start, by the way!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent goth rock, October 9, 2005
This review is from: Escapexstacy (Audio CD)
Anybody who's into Sentenced and Charon will definately love Poisonblack, especially because it's a side project from members of both bands. The combination leaves Poisonblack sounding an awful lot like Charon's "Dying Daylights", possibly because J.P. Leppalluoto is the vocalist for both bands. His vocal style is unmistakable, and to my surprise, Ville Laihiala (Sentenced frontman) is quite an excellent guitar player. This is the combination of all good things from Sentenced and Charon; the vocals are exquisite, the lyrics are much better than anything Charon ever wrote, since Laihiala writes the words, and the music is very easy to listen to and memorable. Anybody who enjoys bands like The 69 Eyes, HIM, To/Die/For, Bella Morte, etc...will most likely enjoy this album.

This is one of the best groups i have heard from Finland. The group has awsome guitar riffs with a heavy melodic overtones coming from the bass. The vocals very dark and melodic, I would compare the vocals to Pete Steele of Type O Negative. I highly recommend this cd to fans of this genre.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good goth fix to tide me over, May 20, 2005
This review is from: Escapexstacy (Audio CD)
I was pointed to this and Charon. Both have the same lead singer but this is way better for your goth/rock type fix. This CD will also satisfy hard/heavy/rock/metal fans. He has one of the deeper voices of the goth type bands I have heard.
Both were purchased without knowing what to expect. (lol)
Im glad I purchased it. I love this CD. My favorite tracks are 2 and 8. With her I Die is so freakin good. Check out centurymedia for a full song from Poisonblack (love infernal) It will give you idea of what to expect.
On a sidenote--I let a co-worker borrow this CD (he loves the 80's hair bands -W.a.s.p -Judas Priest etc) and he even liked it. Somewhat proving what was metioned above.

I was totally impressed the first moment that I popped this cd in! As an avid Sentenced fan, I didn't need any pushing to buy this cd, but that doesen't take away my right to say WOW! What really got me was JP Leppaluoto's voice. That alone sends chills down my spine!

***** - FIVE STARS
===================

I'm a huge Sentenced critic. Everything I've tried to listen to from Sentenced has been extremely boring, and almost puts me to sleep. I don't care for Sentenced at all....

That said, Poisonblack is very impressive. The first spin really got it's hooks in me deep. It's spooky, it's great, and I really need a few more spins to fully appreciate this in it's entirety. I'll get back again later with an indepth review. I just felt like I had to let everyone know that this is cool as hell...

I recommend this highly, no matter your Metal flavor, you should really find this moving. BUY IT NOW!!!

I absolutely love this cd! The vocals are soaring, clear and filled with emotion. There is a darkness to the lyrics and music that is similar to HIM but is it's own. The Finns do this music so well.

This review is from: Escapexstacy (Audio CD)
An Amazing complication with charon singer Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto on vocals & Sentenced's very own Ville Laihiala on guiitar and backing vocals.
An absolut must have for all fans of Charon, Sentenced, Entwine, To/Die/for and so on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album for Paradise Lost and Type O fans!, September 13, 2006
This review is from: Escapexstacy (Audio CD)
I heard the song LOVE INFERNAL on some radio station and was immediately thrilled by the sound of Poisonblack. I ordered the album directly from amazon. The songs on this great album incorporates all that we love about the catchiest songs Paradise Lost and Type O Negative have unleashed upon the world. Poisonblacks premiere release is as good as HIM but heavier. If you like melodic metal and the above mentioned bands, invest in this album.
