Excellent showcase for a talented performer, January 5, 2001
This review is from: A Escondidas (Audio CD)
The Argentine-born singer/songwriter Emanuel Ortega demonstrates his talent and versatility on "A Escondidas." Don't be fooled by the "glamour shots" of the model-handsome Emanuel that can be found on the CD's liner notes and on his Web site; this man is a real artist, not just another pretty pop-boy face!
Emanuel wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on "A Escondidas." The album shows a good mix of styles, with moderate-tempo pop songs, ballads and kinetic tropical-flavored songs. The song "Quiero" is featured in two versions, the second being acoustic. Although my knowledge of Spanish is limited, I can say that the album's romantic lyrics are very appealing.
And that voice! Emanuel has a flexible, expressive voice, and he puts it to excellent use on this album. He brings real emotional depth to slow romantic songs like "A Escondidas." In the tropical-flavored song "Catalina," he really cuts loose with sensuous growling and some high-energy shouting. The pop ballad "Vuelve a casa" even has some subtle falsetto accents.
If you are a fan of Latin pop and salsa, you will definitely want to check out "A Escondidas." This is an excellent album by a very talented performer.

His music is very spiritual. The best 2 songs on the CD are "A Escondidas" and "Late corazon". I love it!

Fantastic!, July 24, 2000
This review is from: A Escondidas (Audio CD)
A beautiful medley of both playful dance and sensuous ballads, this CD is a must have even if you don't speak Spanish! Ortega takes a bit of Ricky Martin's pop (sans all the arrogance) and Luis Miguel's romance and synthesizes it into a unique style that works amazingly well. I would most definitely recommend this CD.
