For those of you who are challenged in the electrical department (like me), here is how I installed my wire to the fuse box in my car without setting fire to my house.

First, you need an "add-a-circuit" connector. Make sure you get the right one for your car (ATM vs. ATC). I think most cars these days take the mini/ATC fuses that you can find in your local PepBoys or AutoZone (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Amazon sells one made by Bussmann. Amazon is great (free Prime membership? wink wink, nudge nudge).

The add-a-circuit connector comes with two slots for fuses on one end, and the other end is open for whatever you want to add in there. This is where you need to MacGyver a bit.

Take your Direct Wire cord. Admire its construction. Ponder the reasoning behind its steep price for what basically amounts to a telephone wire. Then refocus your attention on these instructions.

You need to clip off the spade connector (that's the one that - GASP - looks like a spade). Then, take a wire stripper and expose maybe 1cm of wire. This is what you will be inserting into the open end of the add-a-circuit connector. If you don't have a wire stripper, use your teeth. The wire goes in and the connector is crimped down to make the connection (using a pair of pliers. or your teeth). Make sure you didn't strip too much of the wire housing lengthwise, or the connector won't grip the wire and it'll just fall right out after you crimp it (gee, I wonder who made that rookie mistake).

The Direct Wire has an in-line fuse, but if you're uncertain you can just add a fuse to the slots for extra protection (sort of like a second layer on top of your...never mind). Now you just plug in the add-a-circuit to the fuse slot of your choice.

This is advertised for the escort but it works for the Bel V940 detector. Simple installation. Run the wires along the headliner, down the door to the fuse box. Find a circuit/fuse to wire to for the hot wire and connect the other wire, the ground, to a metal contact point on the vehicle. Plug in the connection at the the detector and there you have it,a detector with no connection to your cigarette lighter/accessory plug and no cord hanging in the middle of the vehicle. This also allows the detector to turn off when the vehicle is off and on only when the vehicle is on. (this last part depends of course on what circuit you wire the detector to at the fuse box)

Great product exactly what I needed. Got rid of the coiled plug and hardwired my beltronics v940 to the left of my rear view mirror. Keeps the radar out of sight and professional looking. The hardwire comes with plenty of length and has a inline fuse. Using a add a circuit from autozone I tapped into a 7.5 acc fuse and put a 2 amp fuse(just in case) in the other slot of the add a circuit fuse block.

I went the route of buying a simple phone cord to make my own direct wire cord. Also bought the Littelfuse add-a-circuit at the local auto parts store. Easy, right? Well, after waisting probably a good hour trying to make a good splice connection with the phone cord's thin, easily breakable copper wires, I pulled it all out, got on Amazon, and with the handy next day shipping for only $3.99 more, ordered this kit. Less than 12 hours from the time I ordered it, I had it delivered, installed, DONE. Actual install time including running the wire across the headliner, down the A-pillar, and to the waiting add-a-circuit, connections made, completely done: about 15-20 minutes max. I only wish I hadn't waisted $5.99 on that phone cord...

I used this kit to mount my Escort 9500ix in my 2007 Mini Cooper S. Suction cupped it right above the rear view mirror and used this kit to hard wire it to a 12V line in the roof. Looks great and you can't see the wiring. Much better than the curly cord haning down the windshield. And it also makes it barely visible to thieves or police.

Easy to conceal and to connect to fuse box. Plenty of length (about 9 1/2 feet). Easy to connect to and disconnect from detector. Better than having coil wire hanging in front of windshield. Excellent Product. Great price.

Good power cord for my Escort Radar Detector. Made for easy direct wiring. No more ugly cigarette lighter adapter cords!

I wish I'd done this a long time ago. Close your ashtray and get rid of that cord dangling down in front of your controls. Free's up your lighter outlet for an emergency charge on your cel phone too. just an hour's worth of labor to install it at any car audio shop.
