This book was actually a disappointment, Dahl seems to be saying that deceit in order to achieve one's ends is acceptable. Though it sends a wrong message, it is entertaining to read.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Esio Trot (Hardcover)
I read Esio Trot by Roald Dahl.I tought it was the best book I ever read. Mr.Hoppy wanted to marry Mrs. Silver. Mrs. Silver did not know that Mr. Hoppy wanted to marry her. The book is about his plan to get Mrs.Silver to fall in love with him. I liked when Tortoise number 8 got stuck in his house. I also like when Mr. Hoppy wrote in tortoise language. That was funny. My favorite part was when Mr. Hoppy had 140 tortoises!

My second graders laughed with delight throughout the short chapter book, and gave a rousing cheer at the very end! We all enjoyed Esio Trot tremendously. This is one of my new favorites in Roald Dahl books.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Esio Trot (Paperback)
Hi I'm Elyssa I'm in 2nd grade. I'm 7 years old. I just finished reading Esio Trot .It is about a man named Mr.Hoppy. Who loves a woman named Ms.Silver.Ms.Silver has a pet tortoise that she wants to grow so Mr.Hoppy gives her a piece of paper that says some weird words.I like this book because it is funny. I think the funniest part of this book is when Mr.Hoppy gives Ms.Silver the piece of paper and Ms.Silver says there are an awful lot of poos in there aren't there? I love Roald Dahl books. My favorite Roald Dahl book is Matilda. Matilda is a little girl who can read all the books in her house by the age of 3.I recommend both Matilda and Esio Trot for ages 7 and up. I wish I could tell you the ending .But you'll have to read the book to find out.

Esio Trot has characters named Mr.Hoppy and Mrs.Silver. Mr.Hoppy went to all the petshops in town and got 140 tortoises to try to trick Mrs. Silver into believing that he made her tortoise, Alfie grow bigger. I like this book, it is cool and also it's nice to read. It is funny. I think Roald Dahl should write another book to let us know what happened to Mr. Hoppy and Mrs. Silver. The book is fun to read because of the characters.

Esio Trot
By Roald Dahl
Puffin Books

"Esio Trot Esio Trot teg reggib reggib." These magic words are from Mrs. Silver, Mr. Hoppy's next door neighbor from the book Esio Trot . In this book Mr. Hoppy gets jealous of a turtle named Alfie, who is Mrs. Silver's pet. Mrs. Silver wants to make Alfie grow bigger but she feeds him and he doesn't get much bigger. With a little bipity boppitie, can Mrs. Silver make Alfie bigger and can Mr. Hoppy get Mrs. Silver to like him? The only way to find out is to READ THE BOOK!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Hoppy is a static character who is the protagonist and a primary character. He is an older person and he loves his flowers. Mrs. Silver is a static character she is also a protagonist and a primary character who is middle aged and loves her turtle. Mrs. Silver's turtles name is Alfie. Alfie is small, young turtle and he has a really nice owner.

In this book I like how Roald Dahl writes this book as a love story but it's not too lovey dovey. The theme of this story is love. It's realistic with a little fantasy. I like love story's so this book was a pager turner. This book would be good for kids in third or fourth grades because it's a little kiddy. This author described this book very well for a kiddy book. People of any age (that know how to read) should read this book.

Have ever imagined a lady in love with a tortoise? If so, "Esio Trot" is the book for you. Mr. Hoppy has a crush on Mrs. Silver. But Mrs. Silver has a crush on a tortoise named Alfie. This book has a lot of funny characters, big surprises, loads of tortoises action and sly and shy characters. This book is very good because the pictures help you understand what's going on. A lesson learned from this story is never lie to make someone in love fall in love with you. Find out what happens to a man and his scheme to make Mrs. Silver fall in love with him.

Esio Trot

My favorite character was Mr. Hoppy because he was curious about plants and animals.
I liked it when Mr. Hoppy bought about 100 tortoises so he can change the tortoises every week that weighed an ounce more then the one before.
I would recommend it to 3 graders if you like a little love in the story, and tortoises too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Plot, February 15, 2004

Secretly in love with Mrs. Silver is the desperately shy Mr. Hoppy. He adores her completely and believes he must do something to make her fall in love with him and tear apart some from her obsession with her beloved tortoise, Alfie. The two are neighbors in the apartment building and they rarely do anything more but have a small chat. Mrs. Silver is displeased because Alfie is small. She has heard of great, immense tortoises that people could ride on and she wishes Alfie would grow. So, thinking this as a chance to win over Mrs. Silver, Mr. Hoppy gives her a little special something to make Alfie grow. He has devised a wonderful plan to finally have the woman of his dreams.

Esio Trot was an exceptional book, and a short one. If you are looking for a quick read, this is the book to choose.
