Flawless,

This is a solid set of very competent soul songs, full stop. I hate comparing artistes to others but if you like Anthony Hamilton or Donell Jones, I think you will like this dude. (There's a third person he reminds me of but I can't quite put my finger on who it is).
Anyway, it's all here: beautiful slow jams, interesting mid-tempos and even one or two potential club bangers. "Crazy..." for example, features a rapper called John Baptist and I fear the only reason why this song didn't make more of an impact on the charts or on MTV is because he isn't one of those high profile rappers. A reflection of where we are in music today and a pity really, because the song is no less entertaining for it. Eric not only sings, he 'recorded and mixed' all the songs here as well. It doesn't give details on the inner sleeve notes but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he played all the instruments on the songs as well. A genuine talent.

eric ronerson,

Profound, vintage vocals merge with matercrafted seamless soul gravitating musical chords, yep, the man is a music-bred-individual with vivid attribute on how to collage using mental seduction vocals to amplify his reality relevance scenery on love and life. And may i add, his authenticity is truely rich with earthy deliveries of his influences (such as marvin gaye just to name a legend).
For new-listeners, his work is truely a message of what music is suppose to be, you know! ( birthed in the mind, led to the hands to sculpture and for the vocals to pave the movement of love and life. And o , not to end there, for the material to be fully displayed and executed in real life concert.) Eric is a comforting zone for many souls.

I saw this guy in concert first and I have to say his music is the bomb! It's trully unlike anything else you've been hearing but exactly like what you want to be hearing and don't even know you want it until you get it and wonder how you were living without it for so long. I'd advise everyone to get on his fanlist so you can see when he comes to your town.

DONT RAIN ON HIS PARADE,
This review is from: Esoteric (Audio CD)
To the first hater..gee come on. You can't recognize good music?
Eric is the ish and that is all to it. I don't know why this cd is so expensive. I got it several years ago from Sam Goody for about 12-15 dollars. I guess it is rare or something. However when you listen to the cd you will be blown away. He has a different syle and its just relaxing and pulls you right in. You want to know him after listening to him. My ultimate favorite song is Rain on My parade. I suggest anyone to play that song and just sit back...you will totally enjoy it. Believe it or not it sounds even better when its raining out side and you have that special one with you. I reccommend EVERYONE to get this cd. If you like JIll Scott you will like this guy. I can't really compare him to any other male artist right now...he just takes it a little deeper with his music

And throwing your money away on music being pushed by execs instead of REAL MUSIC LOVERS!!!! As one of my favorite radio personalities would say, "THIS IS GROWN FOLKS MUSIC"...Not for the faint of heart or mindless sheep that can't get into a song if it doesn't have a video in heavy rotation...I would have bought this CD based on hearing "Rain On My Parade" or "Miles Away" alone...Having said that, I bought this CD WITHOUT HEARING ANY TRACKS FROM IT AND MY MUSIC COLLECTION IS RICHER FOR IT!!!! I was listening to cuts from another project and decided to buy this one as well and I am not disappointed...

I found out about this guy on accident. BET aired a concert version of one of his songs and I've been hooked ever since. I don't know about you but I didn't understand how people could follow certain artists or bands around the country. Now I know. Something about Eric Roberson has made me want to do just that. If real music is what you want, buy ANYTHING by Eric. You won't be disappointed...

Esoteric!,
By Mikeisha Best (Mitchellville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews

The word esoteric means "intended for or understood by only a selected few." I said that to say that everyone is not going to enjoy this album because everyone doesn't understand or know what good music is. This is amazing music. I was fortunate enough to see Eric Roberson (or "Erro", as his true fans call him) in concert. I had front row seats so I saw, up close and personal, how wonderful and talented he is. That was the first time I had heard a great deal of his songs and from then on, I knew I had to support him. Everything about his music is just that, music. The instrumental arrangements are nice, the lyrics are very good, and he executes his music well.
This album has its share of mid-tempos and up-tempos, but the overwhelming majority of this LP is ballads. I was pleased because I'm a ballad fanatic. His ballads are so sweet and sincere, the ladies are truly in for a treat. My absolute favorite song on this album is track number two, "4U." The entire arrangement of this song is incredible. The beat is infectious and so is the melody. Too, the lyrics are very nice. Those who ended up in a relationship with someone who used to be a good friend should listen to "Morning After." Eric apparently has been down that road and a beautiful song was produced in the aftermath. This album has lots of guitar and piano, but the best songs usually do. "What is Love Made Of?" and "Maybe" are both nice numbers. Ironically, the beat of "What is Love Made Of?" sounds a little like Mary J. Blige's song called "Don't Go." The hook on "What is Love Made Of" is very memorable. I have spent mostly my entire review praising this album. I suggest that anyone who is a lover of R&B and/or neo soul purchase this album for its consistency, sincerity and creativity. 5 SHINING STARS! Mikeisha's Top 5 1. "4U" 2. "Morning After" 3. "Runaway" 4. "Maybe" 5. "Woman"
