I really enjoyed reading this Christian fiction novel. It has a very unique approach for story telling of the spiritual battles in the life and from the viewpoint of a teenage girl. The plot involves her and the relationships with a few of her relatives. I especially enjoyed the detailed descriptions of the spiritual battles between the angels and the demons and how both of those groups interacted with the characters. The story is compelling and the plot gently pulls the reader through very realistic spiritual battles of the teenage girl and those around her. I would recommend the book for readers of all ages from 12 and up. Although some younger children may be mature enough and skilled enough at reading to enjoy the story. Some of the terms might be difficult for children younger than than 9 though. It would be a great book for a parent or grandparent to read to children between the ages of nine and thirteen, if they would sit still long enough. It teaches the lessons about the "armor of salvation" found in the Bible. Good lessons to learn or review for people of all ages.

Sara is a ten-year-old girl who is spending a summer with her aunt, uncle, and cousin far from her home. Her father is with her, but ever since her mother died a few years ago they haven't talked much. Her father has become a shell of his former self while Sara has grown somewhat wild. On a bright summer day a huge and mysterious white horse called Espiritu literally whisks Sara away to the Kingdom of Paraiso, a literal city in the clouds. There Sara meets a girl named Risa who introduces her to the ways of the King. Upon returning to Earth, Sara learns that she has the Power of Paraiso and is capable of seeing all sorts of things around her that she was unable to before: from the strong and beautiful creatures who watch over her called criados to the armor that suddenly appears on her body one piece at a time to the dark and evil sombras who seem to lurk in the shadows and cause trouble. With her gifts, it's up to Sara to face the sombras and somehow save her father from their influence.

ESPIRITU is a simple tale of fantasy full of Christian allegorical elements. The first part of the book reads slowly, but as the story progresses the pacing of the book picks up. Other than the slow pace at the beginning of the book the only other issue I had with the book was the overuse of parenthesis in the first half of the book (like this). The parenthesis (you know, the curved lines) distracted (directed my attention away) from the story. However, about halfway through the book I didn't notice them as much. Overall, I enjoyed the book and recommend it to those who are looking for some light Christian fiction.
