Solid reprint of a Classic- Elibron Version,

John Locke's An Essay Concerning Human Understanding is a classic of modern, empiricist philosophy. From a substantive, content, perspective I cannot add anything of value that has not already been been said. Hence, my few comments (and rating) pertain to the quality of the Elibron edition.
On the positive side the font is of an adequate size that it can be read comfortably, and the construction is sturdy. The downside of the bigger font is that it causes the book to be relatively bulky - a little under 500 pages. On the negative side, the page margins are relatively small and not amenable to note making. Additionally, to those seeking an introduction to Locke, or some situating of his work, this text does not provide a modern introduction - it is just a reprint of the work published by Locke. Overall, solid version of a classic. |
