Book Description

Four essays trace the revival of the popularity of this American classic; analyze it in the context of the perennial quest for the "great American novel" and examine the central themes of love, money, order and illusion in the novel. A final essay focuses on its unique style.

The book is a good anthology of critical essays written in the 1970s and 1980s when the tendency was to study the literary works separately from the author. In the more contemporary studies the tendency is to study the literary production in close relationship with the author, which in the case of Fitzgerald seems to be most appropriate.

The book was boring and had no point exept showing how people back in the 1900's liked to party, drink, and DWI. The only thing good in this novel was when they all killed each other!
