For a free product, this is great. I love Emerson and this collection of his essays is excellent. Recommended for poetry enthusiasts or anybody who really enjoys reading and classic literature

good thinking never changes even when language does - I was happily surprised by how contemporary many of Emerson attitudes & conclusions were - sometime a bit preachy but given the times that was what was expected -

I was reading the books listed in Elliots Harvard Classics and my brain was shrieking and my eyes were bleeding. The English tradition of prose and the translated works of very old philosophers seemed like so many words with so little and often extremely redundant message. And then I read Emerson.

Emerson is rumored to be the father of American Literature and his prose was both lyrical and spare. My brain stopped shrieking and started to purr. My eyes stopped bleeding and occasionally teared up for the beauty of the writing.

I was proud to be an American before reading Emerson. After reading Emerson, I know a little more the reason why I am proud to be an American.
