Product Description

Looking to feed the birds and not the squirrels? This is the perfect feeder for you. Birds can get through the metal cage to get the seed but the openings are too small for squirrels to get through. The diameter of the cage is large enough that squirrels cannot reach in to get the seed or tip it to get it out. Made of durable coated metal screen and easy to fill. Feeder measures over six-inch in diameter and 14-inch high.

Unfortunately I had a major problem with this bird feeder, well, actually, my mother had the problem since I bought it for her.
She wanted a feeder for small birds, not large birds like crows, and when she put her small bird seed in the feeder it simply ran out through the mesh. If the mesh had been small enough to keep the seed in then the birds could not get their beaks in.

Since I feel this was my fault for not examining the illustration carefully enough I did not return it. I plan on eventually putting corn and peanuts in it for crows and large birds. I think it will be fine for that.

I was given this one as a gift as my other peanut feeder was being mobbed by starlings and grackles, keeping the smaller birds away. I had hoped this would work, and it does seem well designed and well constructed, but the starlings just hang on the outer wire and can easily reach their heads/beaks through to eat the peanuts. Bummer.... ;(

This bird feeder got a high mark when I first got it. The squirrels can't really get to the food but the holes are open all the way up to the top and the bird seed just spills out. And if you shake it which the squirrels tend to do to the pole, it pours out. I do not recommend this feeder.

We've been plagued by a group of clever and persistent squirrels - attacking several other feeders that we have tried. This feeder, hung from a metal hook standing in the middle of the garden seems to have foiled them. The birds have ready access to feed, and do so with enthusiasm. The squirrels climbed the pole as in the past, but then could not get their paws (?) or mouths far enough into the feeder to eat anything. Nor were they successful in shaking the feeder to scatter the food on the ground. After a week, it seems this is a good, affordable solution. We'll likely get another. The construction seems solid enough and the green color is ok in a garden setting.
