This just arrived. Another reviewer commented on the size saying they looked like they were for a dwarf species of Wren. I don't know that they are that small, but they are small. I measured the dimensions and compared them to the recommendation for a wren bird house. Generally the out side dimensions appear to match the dimensions on the chart, but the chart is referring to inside dimensions. The item is "Designed in Holland, made in China", maybe it reflects a communications problem with the manufacturer. If I known it was made in China, I made well have not bought it on general principles. It's construction is middle of the road, neither good or having much to complain about.
Here are the dimensions as measured by me and recommended by the chart:
. . . . . . . . . . Actual . . . . . . . . . . . . . Recommended
Floor Size . . . . . 2 7/8" x 2 7/8". . . . . . . . . 4" x 4"
Box Height . . . . . 6 3/4" (including roof space). . 6 to 8"
Entrance Above Floor 3 1/2" . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4 to 6"
Entrance Hole. . . . 15/16" . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1 to 1 1/2"
As you can see it runs under recommendations on all dimensions. Be your own judge before you buy it. Personally, I'll what until spring and see how the birds judge them.
Mrs. Spudman and I are impressed by the build of this little house, its rustic looking copper roof, and its pleasing aesthetics. I especially like the hinged side to enable cleaning between nesting seasons. None of our other wren houses have this handy feature.
Our roof has no sharp edges, but there is one tiny edge area that I want to glue down, but probably don't have to. Last winter a wren built a nest and raised babies on our front porch in a half filled salt bag that I never got around to putting away. If she comes back this spring, Mama Wren will have some fancy digs.
