Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

YA-Hinds has done a stunning job of celebrating the spirit-building wellness of African-American women. The book is old-fashioned and full of zest, and includes many of the ingredients that teenaged girls need to be healthy. Readers will learn how to cleanse and moisturize their skin and make facial masks at home, and acquire expert advice on beginning a fitness program. Facts are provided about how to treat, care for, and love their hair; assess its condition; and select styles that are best for individual facial features. The author also gives advice on how to balance one's life, tap into one's soul power, and find peace in the new millennium. Last but not least, a sprinkling of beauty secrets from celebrities and experts around the world is included. The book is profusely illustrated with photographs. YAs searching for a book about pampering themselves from head to toe would do well with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY, A BOOK ESPECIALLY FOR AND ABOUT BLACK FEMALES, February 8, 2000
By
This is a great read! There is so much helpful information that I predict that it wll become the "Bible" for beauty and well being for all black females in the 21st century. The author gives clear, concise and well thought ideas and concepts that are applicable in every day life regardless if you are 21 or 71. I urge all my sisters to buy two, one for themselves to keep and one for whoever sees that they have it because for sure they will try to grab it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, useful, and timeless, January 25, 2000
By A Customer
I have never seen a book bursting with such glorious images of sisters of all shapes and sizes, hues and ages. This is a book to proudly display on your coffee table, if it weren't for the fact that it's so chockful of information you'll want to use in the bathroom and on the go. True to the spirit of Essence, the advice covers all aspects of beauty, from food and exercise and makeup to mental and spiritual health. Every proud black woman should have this book on her shelf!
