The other critics don't get it. If you already have some compilations of Dolly's work, this is bound to be repetative. What the listener gets here is a nice big fat one stop serving of some of the finest highlights of Dolly's RCA and Columbia records career. From her early days with songs like "Tennessee Mountain Home," "Jolene," and "Coat of Many Colors" to her lavish pop phase with "Here You Come Again" and "9 to 5" to her attempts at a more moderate form of country when she moved to Columbia records, this is a mighty fine collection.

Listeners who appreciate the series of bluegrass albums she did for Sugar Hill records or want to dig deep into her album cuts, will need more Dolly than this, but what a great starting point or replacement for old compilations when CD's were rushed to market with no regard for the recording quality.

i have a lot of dolly cd but this is really good when i dont want to carry all my dolly cds around i just grab this one it has most of dollys hits

I have the original 2 disc CD of Essential Dolly Parton (without 3.0 added on the title). This second edition compilation/reissue seems like a rip off because there are (if Amazon's tracklisting is correct)--are only 8 songs tracks on the 3rd disc.

Having an extensive "Dolly" collection. I can burn those 8 songs

I waited to see what songs were going to be on the third disc before I ordered. I already purchased the origanal release. It seems to me that they keep re-releasing the same ones over and over again. As much that is in Dolly's catalog you would think sony would release some of her older stuff. The stuff that us die hard Dolly fans are waiting for. HEY SONY!!! RELEASE SOME OF DOLLY'S OLDER STUFF ON CD!!
