Editorial Reviews

Review

"Students can start anywhere in this book, jump from topic to topic, and learn something useful and interesting." - Anesthesia and Analgesia, Robert E.
Johnstone, MD, West Virginia University

"Based on the presentation of the material in this book, it is obvious that Euliano and Gravenstein have significant experience teaching. The material is presented in an orderly and concise manner, which will benefit students and other learners alike...this book should be on the reading list of anyone rotating through an anesthesia department or those interested in a brief overview. Hopefully this text will peak the interest of more medical students and help to recruit high-quality people into anesthesiology."
Anesthesiology, Timothy R. Long, M.D., Mayo Medical School

"...introductory anesthesia texts that meet the needs of medical students and non-anesthesia physicians and medical staff are relatively few. 'Essential Anesthesia: From Science to Practice' addresses this deficiency well. This book is sufficiently brief and succinct to be of interest to its targeted audiene. At the same time it is sufficiently comprehensive and lucid to retain the lay person's interest, and impart a meaningful understanding of the practice and scope of anesthesiology."
Canadian Journal of Anesthesiology, Mateen Raazi, University of Saskatchewan

2.0 out of 5 stars Medical Student Text, November 1, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After reading two favorable reviews I purchased this book for my Kindle (Please Amazon publish more Anesthesia texts on Kindle). I quickly read through this book realizing early that the depth of the text was on par with medical student level education. If the "Baby Miller" (Miller and Soelting's Basics of anesthesia) is held as the the basic text for CA1 (Clinical Anesthesia year 1) residents, then this book falls far far short. Any CA1 or even intern depending on this book to get them introduced to anesthesia is behind the power curve and needs to reconsider their chosen profession. On the other hand medical students who would like an introduction to the basics of anesthesia may want borrow this book from the library.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introductory textbook, February 27, 2006
This review is from: Essential Anesthesia: From Science to Practice (Essential Medical Texts for Students and Trainees) (Paperback)
As an anesthesia resident, I was looking for an introductory text to provide a solid foundation for my first year of training. This book fits the bill. I get bogged down pretty easily by certain texts, but this book is easy to read and understand. Would also recommend to short timers in aneshesia (medical students rotating for weeks or months) as it focuses on key topics without too much minutia.
