5.0 out of 5 stars Facts and Fun!
An excellently written resource about our nation's presidents. Tons of educational facts, along with entertaining trivia tidbits. This is a great book for children and adults. My children's school PTA bought a copy for every teacher.

I think it's great that Noah McCullough enjoys history and wants to share his love of it with the world. He's a fine example for young scholars everywhere. That said, whether one considers this book valuable depends a great deal on one's expectations. 5.0 out of 5 stars Book with RESPECT, February 1, 2007
This review is from: The Essential Book of Presidential Trivia (Paperback)
It seems as if the previous reviewer has not read this book! It seems writer Ross is critiquing an interview he saw on TV and not the book. I thought this was for a book critiques. Possibly Writer Ross can critique the interview on the CSPAN Site. This book is a fair portrayal of all the presidents written with extreme admiration and respect for the office of president. We all need to read this and be more patriotic and thankful rather than willing to pick a part a child who has obviously been taught or has learned to respect the office of the presidency. THIS BOOK IS BIPARTISAN...the reviewer mentioning CSPAN interview is not.

This book seems to be for all ages who want to know really interesting things about Presidents, their families, the office, secret service, the white house...you name it! FABULOUS!!!!!! When is the First Lady Book coming out?

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book, March 23, 2006
This review is from: The Essential Book of Presidential Trivia (Paperback)
I am a teacher and I purchased this book for my classroom. I felt it was a wonderful book for children, not only for its educational value, but because it was written by a child.

I think it's great that Noah McCullough enjoys history and wants to share his love of it with the world. He's a fine example for young scholars everywhere. That said, whether one considers this book valuable depends a great deal on one's expectations. The quote in the product description - "I want everyone to know about the history of the United States and about important political events and issues and how they work." - is misleading. The book is filled with trivia in its truest sense; few of the factoids within touch on "important political events."

I found the form of the book rather odd. Each president gets some quick biographical information, then a somewhat random blurb (which may or may not relate the major significance of the president's term), then a list of factoids written in question format under the heading "Did you know that..." After a while, I found all those question marks annoying. Interspersed here and there among the individual presidents' listings are general presidential lists (presidents who were governors first, one-term presidents, etc.). I thought the lists were interesting, but unfortunately there is no table of contents or index, so readers cannot look them up. We just have to find them as we go. The best feature of the book is the quiz section at the end, which gives the readers a chance to test their memory of the content of the book.

I would suggest this book for a younger audience or for anyone who wants a bit of light reading about the odd, out-of-the-way miscellany of our presidents' lives and personalities. For any use more serious than that, this book will likely be a disappointment. But, as I said, it's all a matter of what one expects.

This book makes Presisential history fun. I keep lending out my copies, then I buy another. The book may be wriiten by a child, but I think many adults will find it entertaining and informative. If you ive this book as a ift to a child, it is a book they will probabally read.

Easy read and a great book for kids. Love the larger type and interesting factoids. Not bad for the author's first book.....

1.0 out of 5 stars Background Check, December 24, 2006
This review is from: The Essential Book of Presidential Trivia (Paperback)
Just saw the child-author, Mccullough, a Texan, discuss his book on CSPAN2 (BOOK TV).He unsold this book to me the moment he revealed his admiration for George W. Bush and Tom Delay. This potential purchaser is curious to discover what true facts were used in the George W. section.
I suspect the 9/11 Commission and the Iraq Study Group would be a helpful resource for Mccullough, but citing his affection for Bush is evidence those two primary resources were more than likely not on his reading list.
