Good single-disc compilation of British Invasion favorites,
By Robert Huggins (Suburban Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Essential British Invasion Album (Audio CD)
There's a bit more variety on this release from Fuel 2000 than their earlier "Absolutely the Best of the British Invasion" and, as a single disc compilation, this is a solid release of mostly mid-1960s hits from the UK. As is the norm for the vast majority of "British Invasion" compilations, there is no representation here from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Dave Clark Five, The Who or Herman's Hermits, though Peter & Gordon's "World Without Love" was penned by Lennon & McCarthy, and Chris Farlowe sings one of The Rolling Stones' greatest songs from the Sixties "Paint It Black." This collection includes a nice mix of top-40 pop (Freddie & the Dreamers, Peter & Gordon), straight ahead rock (The Kinks, The Spencer Davis Group) and even some psychedelia (Deep Purple, Donovan). There's usually a rarity or two on these compilations, and this one is no exception with "Sittin' on a Fence" by Twice as Much.Much of the music that appears on this compilation has been repeated on other British Invasion compilations so you'll need to check the tracks on this collection with those on other compilations that you may already own. However, if you are new to the music of the British Invasion, or are just looking for a good single-disc compilation, "British Invasion: The Essential Album" includes a great sampling of music from the era.

The bulk of these songs have been done to death on numerous previous compilations.
