5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for physical and mental recovery from c-section
I had a planned c-section and found this book to be very helpful, especially the exercize plan for recovery. The book provides a nice description of the proceedure, but it is the chapters on emotional impacts of c-section and information for your partner really set it apart. It is nice that the book covers both planned and unplanned c-sections. It is nice that the...

3.0 out of 5 stars C-section
This book was not as helpful as I thought it would be in the preparation for having a C-section. It spends a lot of time apologizing that you had to have one. It is very useful if you feel let down or disappointed that you had one, not if you are prepared or planning the experience. The later part of the book consisting of the exercise plan and recovery is very helpful...

It is nice that the authors provide warnings before content that may be upsetting so that you can decide whether or not to read that section. I have recommended the book to several friends and they all said that the book helped them with their recoveries as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars great starter workout, September 5, 2005

I bought the book solely for the workout chapter. I had had one c-section already and never was able to find a workout routine that didn't end up causing me pain at the incision site. This workout is gentle enough to start with, but effective in getting back your abdominal muscles. I've been doing it for 5 weeks now and my stomach is significantly flatter. I've also lost 8 pounds. I can't say much about the rest of the book because, since it was my second c-section, I didn't need to read it.

I have had two c-sections and in the past and I am about to have another. I thought I knew everything about how to handle pain and all of the problems that go with the surgery but this book has shown me things that I did not know. This is a great book! It is very informative and I really learned alot by reading it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The only C-section reference you need, December 25, 2007

I tend to be a person who is not satisfied with just one source of information and do extensive research on every subject that I am educating myself on. After looking at many different books and resources, I can honestly say that this is the only book that you need to prepare you for your c-section. This comprehensive reference provides thorough information while maintaining a humanistic approach to the subject matter. This book contains a whole chapter on the emotional aspects of having a cesarean which I found to be very helpful, since it is something that is not usually addressed. On top of the information included to aid you in your physical recovery there is another chapter with workout information when you are ready for that. I would have paid twice the price I did for this truly "essential" resource

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I had this book after my first c-section!, July 8, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Essential C-Section Guide: Pain Control, Healing at Home, Getting Your Body Back, and Everything Else You Need to Know About a Cesarean Birth (Paperback)
My first baby was born after an emergency c-section -- I had "planned" on a natural childbirth! I was so unprepared for the experience that it took me months to get over it. With my second one, the c-section was planned so I wanted to know what to expect. I couldn't find a book out there and my pregnancy books barely covered the topic.

Now I'm pregnant with my third and know I'll be having another c-section so I am thrilled that there is finally a book to help me. The Essential C-Section Guide is amazing -- it's so easy to read and the authors really explain everything you need to know about c-sections. I especially appreciated the information on breastfeeding and the exercise chapters are awesome. Reading a full description of the surgery also helped me make some sense of what had happened to me -- and now I know exactly what to expect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential is right!, August 28, 2005
This review is from: The Essential C-Section Guide: Pain Control, Healing at Home, Getting Your Body Back, and Everything Else You Need to Know About a Cesarean Birth (Paperback)
Three years ago, I underwent an emergency c-section and have had emotional issues surrounding it since. Now that I've learned with this second pregnancy that I am not a candidate for an attempted vaginal birth, I decided it was high time to educate myself as much as possible.

After reading this book, not only am I feeling more prepared for the upcoming c-section but I'm also more understanding of the one I had years ago. I heartily recommend this for every woman, whether she's pregnant and planning on a vaginal birth or a mom that has had a c-section in the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book - speeded up my recovery! I wish I had it with my previous c-section, August 16, 2009
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Essential C-Section Guide: Pain Control, Healing at Home, Getting Your Body Back, and Everything Else You Need to Know About a Cesarean Birth (Paperback)
Just few points I found very helpful:

1. This book helped me make informed decisions before, during and after c-section, with regard to medication, medical procedures, daily routine etc. For example, nurses in the hospital would offer me pain medication without explaining which medication is stronger, and pros and cons. With the help of the book I knew what to choose.

2. With a lot of helpful tips from the authors who had c-section themselves I was able to speed up the process of recovery, when compared to my previous two c-sections. I also had less pain and used weaker pain medication.

3. My husband knew exactly how to make me feel better thanks to a chapter in the book that gives very helpful hints to men.

4. If not the book I would not have known I could start workout from the very first day after delivery, starting with breathing exercises and kegels on day one and switching to light abdominal exercises on day four. Two weeks after delivery my tummy felt much smaller and stronger.

5. Managing pain: Most of the time I knew the cause of pain thanks to extensive explanations in the book. That helped me control the pain without resorting to strong medication.

There is more to this book and I recommend it to everyone who plans a c-section.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a Must Read for all New Moms and Moms To Be!, July 27, 2004

My motto is , be prepared! When you're pregnant, you probably hope for a vaginal birth, but you never know. Prepare yourself ahead of time, just in case you might require a c-section. As your pregnancy evolves, the reality of a cesarean delivery may emerge. I had a few minor complications early in my pregnancy that led me to believe I might require a c-section. I read this book to educate myself about cesarean delivery. This book is the most comprehensive c-section resource available! It covered procedural aspects of the surgery, potential complications, and the How To's of recovery both in the hospital and at home. This book also dedicates a chapter to answering any questions your partner might have about the surgery. As it turned out, I did not require a c-section, but I am so glad I read this book and prepared myself, just in case!

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Indeed, November 3, 2007

This review is from: The Essential C-Section Guide: Pain Control, Healing at Home, Getting Your Body Back, and Everything Else You Need to Know About a Cesarean Birth (Paperback)
I couldn't find much out there about C-Sections and what was covered in the birthing books was so vague and general. Having a necessary and planned C-Section can be a lot less intimidating with more information. This book provided plenty of that and has really helped us to think about what is most important for us to consider in our birth plan. A very good book for someone having to have this type of surgery. I also highly suggest anyone being told that they "need" a C-Section to really look into the reasons given being that many of the "needed" reasons are not necessarily so. Bradly birth classes are packed full of information on this subject. That said, if you are indeed finding yourself in this situation being informed can make all the difference in how the experience is.
