This review is from: The Essential Charles Fillmore: Collected Writings of a Missouri Mystic (Hardcover)
This book is inspirational in that you learn / understand that one's own destiny (the kingdom of heaven) lies within and not without. It is an excellent overview of the major topics that Fillmore wrote in his time and his philosophy can be used today. The writings, although based on metaphysics, is based greatly on the Bible, and particularly the Christian religion. In his writings, you will find that it is so easy to get what you need out of this physical life by concentrating on the spiritual life.

The book can be used for a beginner seeking to understand Unity (which is why I bought it), but also as a tool for teaching students, and as a reference book or guide to every day living or personal development.

If you want a new indepth understanding of Divine Mind that will give you peace and happiness, properity and abudance, and good health - you should read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Foundations of New Thought, August 8, 2011

This book is a compendium of writings by Charles Fillmore, co-founder of the Unity movement. It includes commentary by James Gaither, chair of metaphyical studies at the Unity School for Religious Studies.
Topics addressed are "The True Character of Being," metaphysical Christology, "The Omnipotence of Prayer," "Reincarnation", and "The Restoration of God's Kingdom." Fillmore gives perspectives on ideas as being "born again", the Holy Spirit, or "final things" that give different viewpoints than those taught by popular Christian writers and preachers.
The "metaphysical" religious viewpoint is a very practical approach to spirituality. Its focus is not on dogmatism, but upon timeless principles that can be lived each day. Fillmore's message is that truth is not simply something to be believed, but it is something that can heal and renew. People frustrated with traditional, fundamental Christianity have found a refuge in Unity.
If you want to learn more about the philosophy of New Thought or if you are seeking an alternative to narrow belief systems, this book is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars uplifting book, October 8, 2011
This review is from: The Essential Charles Fillmore: Collected Writings of a Missouri Mystic (Hardcover)
I do enjoy all of Charles Filmore's books. They are certainly not the kind of books that someone could casually read. They are meant to be studied, pondered and read over and over. Charles has the same line of thinking as other metaphysical authors, like Mary Baker Eddy, Emily Cady, Louise Hay, A. Dressers, Emma Hopkins, and many others, so I do not except Charles teachings as being original to him. knowing the works of the authors mentioned and many more, I can tell where he got his ideas from. But, I do credit him for thinking on his own and giving his view on what he learned. If your searching for true spirituality , then I would recommend this book.
