If it's an "essential" Eddie Money disc you're after....,

...then you've got no choice but to make your own, since Columbia Records seems to be incapable of doing it right (and they've had plenty of tries). So log on to Amazon.com and buy all 10 of Eddie's CD's released by Columbia (no illegal downloading!), sit down with an 80-minute recordable CD, and whip up your own "Essential" Eddie Money disc. Unlike Columbia's own compilations, the track selection on your disc should feature ALL of Eddie's "Top 40" hits, as well as some nice album tracks which define Eddie as an artist. It really is impossible to condense 10 albums' worth of material onto a single disc, and some songs will have to be left out, but any collection you produce yourself will surely be better than anything from Columbia. The following tracklist is an example of what songs an "Essential" Eddie Money disc should include. The track sequence is not random, but designed to simulate the feeling of a concert--with the most popular songs heard near the end. Burn and enjoy! 1. Two Tickets To Paradise (from album "Eddie Money") *NOTE: Even if you already have some of these songs, buy the complete albums anyway. There are some great tracks on the albums which had to be omitted in order to facilitate a single 80-minute CD. Rock on!

15 Tracks - 59 minutes - Well Short - But At Least They're Remastered!,
This review is from: Essential Eddie Money (Audio CD)
I've owned and loved "Eddie Money" (1977) and "Life For The Taking" (1978) since they were released on Epic back in the day. I bought the US-only crappy 80's CDs of these titles years ago (Eddie Money CK 34909 and Life For The Taking CK 35598) and have been waiting for remasters ever since - in vain.
The reason I say this is that Columbia/Legacy's "Essential" series are all re-masters - as is this - it's just that it misses out badly on his first 2 and most beloved albums. Some in the series are double CDs for a budget price, so why oh why did they scrimp it on this - especially when fans have been bombarded with inferior 'Best Ofs' for years?? I've listed the tracks below and the albums they're off to show you what I mean and also help potential purchasers in knowing what's what: 1. Two Tickets To Paradise (Eddie Money, 1977) 2. Baby Hold On (Eddie Money, 1977) 3. Wanna be A Rock "N' Star (Eddie Money, 1977) 4. Gimme Some Water (Life For The Taking, 1978) 5. Get A Move On (Playing For Keeps, 1980) 6. Trinidad (Playing For Keeps, 1980) 7. Shakin' (No Control, 1982) 8. Think I'm In Love (No Control, 1982) 9. No Control (No Control, 1982) 10. Take Me Home Tonight (Can't Hold Back, 1986) 11. I Wanna Go Back (Can't Hold Back, 1986) 12. Walk On Water (Nothing To Lose, 1988) 13. I'll Get By (Right Here, 1991) 14. Peace In Our Time (Sound Of Mercy, 1989) 15. There Will Never Be Another You (Love & Money, 1995) As you can see, the 2nd album is ill served with 1 track represented - when there was clearly room for 3 or 4 more! After his 3rd album "Playing For Keeps", I thought his writing went well off the boil. So we get 11 tracks from albums we don't really want, but only 4 from the first two that we do! Still, what is to treasure on here is the sound - remastered in 2003 - these tracks sound 2 or 3 times better than the original CDs still being sold to this day. I do wish Legacy would do expanded versions of "Eddie Money" and "Life For The Taking" - US fans in particular have been clamouring for them for years. They really do deserve Rock'n'Roll rediscovery. To sum up, this is a great sounding re-mastered set for sure, but it's just such a shame that the disc wasn't filled up more fully.

THE ESSENTIAL EDDIE MONEY is, along with EDDIE MONEY, LIFE FOR THE TAKING, and NO CONTROL, one of the first Eddie Money albums you should buy. It contains all of the important songs plus a few others. If you get this one and the other three aforementioned albums, you will have the ultimate Eddie Money library.

I am not a hard core Eddie Money fan. I really like a few of his songs and had a hard time finding a CD that had all the ones I like on it. This Cd had all the songs of his I really like, and I am not dissapointed in it at all. Good sound quality, as well.

Another Greatest hits that couldve been so much better......,

This Shoud have of been more than just 16 songs perhaps a double Cd compilation despite the fact there is quite a few from Columbia Records already and many others from his other labels. Though I thought this one would have correct the mistake the 2001 Best Of had but I was wrong. Why Columbia keeps rehashing his Hits every other year is a mystery to me. I liked the fact this one had better pics of him, better sound quality, and 1-3 songs per album he did for columbia except "Where's the party". But the I just cannot find any reason as to why once again the compilation producer or someone else chose not to put"Endless nights" the last single released from "Cant hold back". I was mad that this one did not make it on here so that I can pick up one hits package of his to have all his hits, Known hits at least but once again fans are made to spend more money. This is why I hate Columbia. Last since they chose a song of "Love and money" from a different label they could've chose a much better catchy song from that album since it has quite a few hook filled songs but again Columbia is full of stupid people who think they know what is good. Essential Eddie Money could have been the one to display Eddie's talents but were again let down.

Essential,yes-but not nearly as comprehensive as others in SONY's "ESSENTIAL" series. They missed the mark on this one, which is really a shame since a second disc would've delivered. In comparison to the three other hits collections, this is a step in the right direction. It'll suffice for now but, let's hope they get it right next time.

Where is "Take A Little Bit?" This is a great song from the No Control album. That's really the only song that I miss from this CD.

Too many repeats of his greatest hits album. There was only one song that isn't included in his greatest hits album and some awesome tunes that were on the greatest hits that weren't included in this album. I was disappointed, but I gave it 3 stars because I do like most of the songs.

I like Eddie Money for his hits, which this album contains. It also has a few others that are good, too. This is the best Greatest Hits Album for the casual listener.

Another year, another Eddie Money compilation. This one still doesn't get it right. So many 'charted' hits are still missing. Where are CLUB MICHELLE and THE BIG CRASH? ENDLESS NIGHTS? There are more, I just don't feel like listing all the missing ones.
