If you want to start the trombone, get this book! This tells you notes, positions, reading the staff, everything! I don't think I could of learned how to play the trombone if I did not have this book. If you want to learn, get this book!

this book is really good for everyone who wants to know the basics first and be one step furter to mastering the trombone

this is really a band book but it works fine for teach-yourself instructions or with an instructor.
I'm afraid it leans heavily on the "marching band" keys, but it gets you playing quickly with a good range of notes. The songs are on CD with and without the melody line which is very helpful for tempo.
I have the first two for trombone (to learn) and the first one for flute (to teach) and I'm very pleased with them.

I bought this so I could play along with my daughter while she is learning trumpet and all I can say is it's not Arban's. Unfortunately it's what my daughters band director chose, it doesn't teach circle of fifths or for that matter very many scales either. The DVD/CDs are kind of helpful and keep the kid's attention during practice, almost to a point of distraction at times.

music book was advertised to come with dvd and cd. All I received was the book. I then had to go out and purchse a whole new book to get the dvd and cd I wanted in the first place. The purchase from this buyer was a big waste of money and worse than that dishonest advertising.
