Excellent resource book to have
The book is great. Very useful for English learners and also teachers of English language. Its user friendly and I fully recommend it.

disappointing
I was so disappointed by this book considering the reviews. Very little if any explanations, nearly all repetitive exercises of the most basic level and no progressive route. A student would struggle to see the point. A teacher would find it boring and simple to a level below elementary.As a teacher and student, I found it both.

I have a large collection of English Grammar books. I have found this one to be the best. Each topic is clearly set out, one page of explanation followed by one page of exercises, indexed for easy referral. Ideal for the student who wants to work by him/herself (with answers in the back) or the teacher who wants to check the accuracy of what he/she is teaching. English is a convoluted language with many exceptions to the rule and it is important to be able to present it accurately and clearly to students the first time.Many of my students have bought this book as they consider it sets out clearly all the things they were unsure about in the past.

A very good explanation of various grammar points. The exercises that go with the explanations helps to reinforce the rules of grammar. An excellent homework resource, not just ESL students, but also for native speakers of English.

I bought the Essential Grammar in use to work with a refugee from Eritrea, Africa.
This has been an incredible resource for me and her. She LOVES it and carries it everywhere. I've just purchased a 2nd copy so that we can send it to her daughter who remains in Eritrea - but is desperate to learn English!
