I have been using the 2nd edition of this book to tutor my brother-in-law and his wife. They've enjoyed the book, but recently, I decided to "upgrade". The book arrived in the mail 2 days ago, and I am absolutely astounded. It's in colour. It's got nicer drawings. It's got the same great format. It's got an even better organization. It's still got a smattering of British-only usages, but I've always thought this more of a feature than a bug, and besides, how hard is it to just say, "Americans say it this way instead"?

I'm impressed with the book, and excited to start using it. Highly recommended for autodidacts and tutoring situations.

English is not my native language and I know very well how difficult is to learn a second language without proper education. I have studied Murphy's books for a long time and recommend his books for everybody. There are a lot of good books out there (I have purchased a whole bunch of them!), but no one bits this one. This book is for elementary students. There are also the intermediate grammar and the advanced grammar - all them are great! It is a must have! Buy with confidence!

I find this book very useful. I'm an english teacher as a foreing
language, and liked it very much. It's clear, precise and with enough exercises for practice. Highly recommend it.

I liked this book a lot. It's very exemplified, with drawings, finally, a great book to study grammar.

I think the book is very helpful to do more exercises in grammar by doing intensive practice.

I use this book to tutor an elementary/low-level adult. I did not pick the book out--it was passed to me from her previous teacher whom moved.

The book is correct in its "To the teacher" section: the book is not a course book and is not taught progressively.

My issue with the book is it really isn't a reference book (as it claims). It lays out grammar in very, very little detail (gives example sentences and minimal explanations).

This book is aimed at "elementary" students but tries to make the information so elementary it strips too much of the information to be truly useful.

All in all, I won't use this book with another student.

Perfect to my use. I'm learning english in Brazil and this book help me. I use the book in my english class.

I bought these three books, one I received after paid (3 of them paid together of course in april this year) in a month maybe, as for the other ones... I still have not received them!!!, amazing, they are inicated as shipped and now they tell me they have delivery date for december 6 to the 16th!!!
I think I'll think twice next time.

If i speak English today, I owe it to Mr. Raymond Murphy, for writing this absolutely fantastic book. I have studied German during high school and when I was introduced to this book I literally knew no English whatsoever. I'm truly thankful that such a marvelous book exist.
