This book of supplementary grammar exercises for elementary and lower intermediate students of English accompanies the second edition of Essential Grammar in Use. It contains a wealth of additional exercises which provide students with further practice of the grammar they have studied. * Provides challenging contrastive practice of the forms students of this level find most difficult. * Offers a wide variety of interesting exercise types with clear illustration. * Is clearly cross-referenced to the second edition of Essential Grammar in Use but is flexible enough to be used independently. * Contains useful revision material suitable for class use or for homework.

Review

'Never heard of Murphy? Well, then it is high time you rush to the nearest book shop and buy it. It is still the best grammar book and has been so for the last 12 years.' ETAS, Switzerland, 1997

'Never heard of Murphy? Well, then it is high time you rush to the nearest book shop and buy it. It is still the best grammar book and has been so for the last 12 years ... The explanations - always one page - of any grammar item are clear and illustrated not only with good examples but also motivating pictures. On the page facing these explanations you are offered a good selection of exercises. They are easy to understand and also illustrated with pictures.' 'If you feel your students need and also want more of them, there is the volume with the Supplementary Exercises. This means no work for you, you do not have to make up your own examples - it is all there.' ETAS, Switzerland, 1997

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential material for the EFL ESL student, October 17, 2006
This review is from: Essential Grammar in Use Supplementary Exercises With key (Paperback)
I am a EFL teacher, and everyone of my serious and dedicated students have either this book or English Grammar in Use (Murphy's other creation).
The explanations are, for the most part, easy to understand and he supplies diagrams where appropriate. The grammar and vocabulary are of the U.K. variety but I haven't found it major problem.

To the Teacher:
If you are looking for supplemental material to give to your students as homework or as in class short pattern oral drills, then this book is definitely for you.

To the student:
Confused about how to use "A and THE"? Why is "The movie is bored" wrong? Ok It's true... English grammar is difficult but it's also important. This book explains English grammar very well. If you are a serious student, please ask you teacher if this book will help your progress.
