About the Author

Lillian Carson, L.C.S.W., Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work, a renowned authority on child development, parenting and grandparenting, is also author of a Parents' Choice Silver Honor-winning book, "The Essential Grandparent: A Guide To Making a Difference". She is the national spokesperson for "America's Promise", McGrandMom for "McDonald's Parent Source" magazine, Grandparent Moderator for the United Nations Global Meeting of Generations project and a lecturer. Her numerous television appearances include "The Today Show", "CNN", "MSNBC" and "CNBC". A psychotherapist in private practice in Los Angelas and Santa Barbara, California with over twenty-five years of experience working with adults, children and families, Dr. Carson resides in Montecito, California with her husband and enjoys grandparenting ten grandchildren.

Guide to Divorce provides an honest look at what it means to be a grandparent caught up in the reality of divorce. It recognizes what the courts have failed to recognize: that there are some parents who must be removed from their children's life because of their toxic influence. The book re-emphasizes Dr. Carson's assertion in The Essential Grandparent that grandparents must provide the stabilizing influence that often is missing in their grandchildren's life. Even though divorce never ends, Dr. Carson submits, at times it is a new beginning for those affected, another chance at happiness under different circumstances, within new environments. Dr. Carson's observations, examples, tips--interspersed among quotes and borrowed cartoons--are definitely a reality check in a changing society.
