Thankfully Joanne Zeis has dedicated herself to helping people with Behcet's Disease, their physicians, and those who are affected by this rare condition. Few resources about Behcet's Disease are available in English AND as understandable and user-friendly as this book. Even though I've had the disease for many years, I recently battled a new symptom and I opened this book again, looking for answers. The Essential Guide to Behcet's Disease offered a number of possible treatments for my problem, ideas that neither I nor my doctor had thought about, and their use and dosage were explained clearly. Anyone struggling with Behcet's Disease or treating a patient with it can benefit from the vast amount of current information in this book. Highly recommended: a must have!

Working closely with a pharmaceutical company pursuing a safe and inexpensive treatment for Behcet's disease, I have spent four years researching this disease and attempting to collate the information that was available. I am excited to find there is now a book available that has completed this very difficult task in a professional manner - the Essential Guide to Behcet's Disease. This book is fantastic. Every time I pick it up to look for a bit of information, I invariably find myself poring over every word, thinking about the consequences/implications of what I am reading, and marking passages with highlighters. It not only answers the difficult questions posed by patients of this disease, it is also a wonderful reference book for physicians, with the appropriate sources listed for further research. I intend to present copies of this book to my personal physicians as I am certain they will appreciate the new information and the concise format of the reference data. Very broad in scope, I think it is imperative this book be placed into the hands of as many people as possible for the many topics it covers - from symptoms and diagnosis to standard treatments, alternative treatments, and even how to deal with the red tape associated with applying for disability when necessary. I have no reservations about recommending this book to any patients and physicians dealing with Behcet's disease.

While it may seem like an unusual birthday gift, this book provided a friend a gift of information not to be found elsewhere. Empowering, informative, well-written. Provides hope, suggested lifestyle changes, and resources. He will be using it as a reference for a long, long life-time.

I bought this book for my friend in Poland who has a 16 years old daughter diagnosed with Behcet's Disease. Before sending the book to Poland I spent two nights on reading it. The book is condensed and very well organized. I liked especially the chapter where the similar diseases (such as Lupus or Multiple Sclerosis) are compared. After reading it I feel like an expert on Behcet's Disease. I'm sure the book will help my friend and his daughter.
