This book is great, I mean you finally get to see the characters you read about in books! Tendra wasn't in here, but she is in the planet guide, so that makes up for it. This is definately a must for any fan of any age.

This book has hundreds of characters from the Star Wars universe. It has characters from each of the comic books, books, movies, and spin-offs. It's a definite must-see.

If you're mega into SW then this book is for you.

Each character reviewed gets at least a page of text, with info and background. Major chars (ex: Luke, Leia, Vader) get several pages chockful of info info info!

* However, it needs some updating, since stuff has happened since '95. But a great source for fans anyway. ^_^

A very good book and fairly complete guide of the characters it has, but it is missing a few biggies, such as Zorba the Hutt. Also, for some reason it has Lak Sivrak but not Dice Ibegon, which are an almost inseparable pair, at least in terms of character descriptions. And also, I believe that if there is a reference to a character in another character's description, that character should be in the book. And lastly, as was said in another customer comment, a lot of Star Wars books have been written since 1995, making this guide seem not so complete because it doesn't have the now familiar characters Dash Rendar, Prince Xizor, and Guri. A good solution would be making an updated sequal to this book.

The Essential Guide is a very good guide to the characters of the Star Wars universe. Unfortunately, this book was written before the release of the new Star Wars prequels, so you won't find any info on those movies in this book. If you're an avid fan though, I highly recommend you buy this book anyway, since it has in-depth descriptions of key players in Episodes 4-6. Good buy!

The Essential Guide to Characters is a great guide of all the characters from the original trilogy and the expanded universe. It's a greate resource for anyone who wants to know about specific characters, and for fanfiction authors who are interested in getting to know the history of a character they want to include in their fanfiction. It's definately great, and would be a great addition to the collection of someone who considers themselves a know-it-all, or someone who enjoys writing in the Star Wars universe. The only thing that takes away from the rating is the fact that all the images are black and white.

Don't commit the same mistake I did by buying this book if you already own the Essential Chronology or the Essential Guide to Alien Species.

This book needs an URGENT update, there are no refences for Corran Horn nor Kyle Katarn even if this last one had appeared BEFORE the book's publishing.

The illustrations are equally obsolete: Borsk Fey'Lya is portrayed with the "dwarfish" look the bothans had in previous comics (even the book has illustrations of Thrawn taken from the comic adaptation of Heir to the Empire in which the bothans have the modern goat face they exhibit in the Guide for Alien Species!)

Fantastic information on all of the main characters up to the book Darksaber. I have read it over and over again and it really puts you into the heart of the Star Wars universe! Lets hope they bring out a second edition of the characters in the newer books! Buy it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This a very good source for characters. The only reason I did not give it a five, is because it needs to be updated. A lot of things have happened since '95. If they updated this book I would buy it in a second. Overall, it is a very good book.

This book is still an exccellent guide despite being outdated (came out in 1995). It includes several characters that were very enjoyable to read about, despite their incredibly minor if not non-existant role in the Star Wars storyline. Some are Imperial Royal Guards, Tessek, IG-88, etc. Reading it, I felt that it included too many of the Dark Empire 1 and 2 characters, when it could have had other more iteresting ones. Overall, this book isn't the most up-to-date thing out there, but will likely explain all the characters you need to know.
