"While other compendia of treatment information exist, this book is unique in giving pations and their families concrete information to use in juding the quality of care--how long it takes for each form of treatment to provide relief, possible side effects, even cues that a psychiatrists's performance is probably not adequate...absolutely essential."

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, thank goodness, February 2, 2002

This review is from: The Essential Guide To Mental Health: The most comprehensive guide to the new pschiatry for popular family use (Paperback)
After being diagnosed with Bi-Polar Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive disorder, and Social Anxiety (I guess I have a few problems), I read a few of the "self help" books sold through Amazon, none of them came close to the pracical information given here. I really got a handle on the scope of mental illness, and the most up to date treatments available. A VERY good book!

This review is from: The Essential Guide To Mental Health: The most comprehensive guide to the new pschiatry for popular family use (Paperback)
Every college and medical school in this country and abroad should make this a MUST read for their students. The coverage of the myriad of psychiatric topics is complete, sincere and doesn't pull punches. Dr. Gorman has written a book that must be read by anyone suffering from psychiatric issues and those learning to treat them. A more comprehensive and interesting book on the subject of psychiatry has not been written before this one.
