About the Author
Jack M. Gorman, M.D., professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University and deputy director of the New York State Psychiatric Instutite, is the author of the bestselling The Essential Guide to Psychiatric Drugs. He lives in New York City and lectures frequently throughout the country.

After being diagnosed with Bi-Polar Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive disorder, and Social Anxiety (I guess I have a few problems), I read a few of the "self help" books sold through Amazon, none of them came close to the pracical information given here. I really got a handle on the scope of mental illness, and the most up to date treatments available. A VERY good book!

Every college and medical school in this country and abroad should make this a MUST read for their students. The coverage of the myriad of psychiatric topics is complete, sincere and doesn't pull punches. Dr. Gorman has written a book that must be read by anyone suffering from psychiatric issues and those learning to treat them. A more comprehensive and interesting book on the subject of psychiatry has not been written before this one.
