5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, thank goodness
After being diagnosed with Bi-Polar Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive disorder, and Social Anxiety (I guess I have a few problems), I read a few of the "self help" books sold through Amazon, none of them came close to the pracical information given here. I really got a handle on the scope of mental illness, and the most up to date treatments available. A VERY good book!

1.0 out of 5 stars By someone who knows Jack Gorman
Jack Gorman is slick. He is glib. He has lost his medical license. He admitted to having sex with at least one and possibly more patients. When it was exposed "he tried to kill himself". I don't think this man is qualified to write about mental heath. I give his book zero stars. I request him to stop posing like a doctor let alone an "expert" till he obtains mental health...

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ FOR EVERY MEDICAL STUDENT, May 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Essential Guide To Mental Health: The most comprehensive guide to the new pschiatry for popular family use (Paperback)
Every college and medical school in this country and abroad should make this a MUST read for their students. The coverage of the myriad of psychiatric topics is complete, sincere and doesn't pull punches. Dr. Gorman has written a book that must be read by anyone suffering from psychiatric issues and those learning to treat them. A more comprehensive and interesting book on the subject of psychiatry has not been written before this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Overview, July 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Essential Guide To Mental Health: The most comprehensive guide to the new pschiatry for popular family use (Paperback)
This book is an excellent overview of the various manifestations of mental illness. In a concerned manner, the author clarifies the treatment options available. As society has begun to realize, untreated mental illnesses can result in tragic suicides. A recommended addition to any public or private library.
