Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Unless you're a dancer or professional athlete, you probably do very little stretching in your regular exercise routine. This book won't do much to change your feelings about flexibility exercises if you already love or hate them. But it's hard to beat as a practical guide. It gives you pre- and post-exercise stretching routines that you can memorize and then modify with more challenging movements as you progress. In addition, you get routines geared to specific sports, such as golf and soccer, and there's even a chapter on stretches for pregnant women.

From School Library Journal

YA. A visually attractive and readable guide. Text, boxed sidebars, and full-color photos are appropriately juxtaposed. Readers are first given a theoretical introduction to stretching and some physical and mental reasons why it's important. Subsequent sections include information on warming up, types of stretches, assessing one's own stretch level, and how to safely increase one's flexibility. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced routines are presented in detail, including those intended for relaxation, for overcoming stiffness, for working out with a partner, for prenatal and postnatal women, and for use with 15 different sports. Loaded with interesting and useful information.?Lorna Kundert, Fairfax County Public Library, VA

After reviewing the copy of The Essential Guide to Stretching, I was very pleased to convey my opinion of this book as an educational and motivational tool geared toward youth athletes. The pictorials were very good in demonstration.
