An Essential Look at Shellhead,
This review is from: Essential Iron Man, Vol. 3 (Marvel Essentials) (v. 3) (Paperback)
Straddling the Silver and Bronze ages for comics, the nearly 600 pages cover 1969-1971 through The Invincible Iron Man #12-#38 and Daredevil #73.
Appearances by the Avengers, Daredevil and S.H.I.E.L.D. only enhances the story lines where Tony (Iron Man) Stark faces off against a number of recurring evil doers. This is a very impressive volume of intelligence and technology from the "Armored Avenger."

This review is from: Essential Iron Man, Vol. 3 (Marvel Essentials) (v. 3) (Paperback)
As a kid in the 1960's-70's, I was a fan of Iron Man comic books. The "Essential" series give fans a chance to re-live those classic stories without the expense of having to buy the original issues. This volume comprises Iron Man issues #12-38 and Daredevil #73. It also features the pairing of two of Marvel Comics brightest contributors - writer Archie Goodwin and artist George Tuska, from issues #12-24. I consider Tuska to be the finest artist to ever draw Iron Man (and I spent many hours as a kid trying to re-create his great drawings). Goodwin wrote stories with depth and emotion. His series from issues #17-22 which deals with Tony Stark's desire to lead a "normal" life and it's tragic consequences are my all-time favorite Iron Man issues. Bottom line - if you are a Silver Age Iron Man fan then these books are for you. I would give it 5 stars except for that they are reprinted in black and white - but it does not detract from the excellent artwork by George Tuska.

This review is from: Essential Iron Man, Vol. 3 (Marvel Essentials) (v. 3) (Paperback)
This book covers an interesting time in Iron Man stories of the early 70's, with Midas, Shield, the Avengers, Daredevil, and the always interesting Madame Masque. If you can't get the full color back issues, reading these stories in black and white is the next best thing.
