A Listmania! list by Sara Zoe(Los Angeles, CA United States)
The list author says: "We don't really like Stuff for Stuff's Sake, but as there is no telling what a baby is going to like or not like before you meet him/her, we ended up with a lot of extra Stuff. Out of all that Stuff, we are very grateful that we had all of THIS Stuff on hand for those first nutty, lovey, sleep-deprived 90 days of Newbornhood."
"Starting at a month-old or so, our strong-necked baby has taken to this seat. He will sit pleasantly while his tired parents enjoy a meal together, or work out, or clean some house. Even when he's been crying, something about THIS seat makes him tolerate being set down briefly. We take it with us to friends’ houses and anywhere else we might want him to feel comfortable...and happy and quiet."
"This is as good as they say. When that bubble situation the hospital gives you just won't get the job done, this puppy will get them boogers out. Do be gentle, though; it freaks out the baby to have air strongly sucked through his sinus passages, however relieving it may feel on the other side."
"These are THE BEST. They’re huge: big enough to swaddle any size babything. They’re light, so one layer is good for summer/Los Angeles, fold them for warmer coverage. They’re durable: our son gets babyfluids all over them every few days & we’ve washed them dozens of times. They haven't lost their color or softness, and no stains. Plus, they’re adorable, offering many designs. Worth every penny."
"Doesn't have to be this brand, but these little "car-seat buddies" are great for our baby. Since he was teeny-tiny, he's caressed them during every car-ride or stroller-ride, like comforting little friends. I don't think he would be happy/okay in the car-seat without them."
"Recommended by a lactation consultant, we've found these bottles/nipples to be the ONLY ones that act like the breast itself, flow-wise. At first it took our baby forever to eat from them, but it also took him forever on the boob. Now he’s more efficient at both & happy with both because they’re so alike. The few times we've tried other bottles, even Born Free, milk flows so fast that he chokes."
"Best diapers we've tried. Hard to stray when we know these work & are so central to life being livable/pleasant. The indicator strip was invaluable for us as new parents, & we've never had a leak that wasn't due to going way too long between changes. Tried some enviro-friendly diapers & they leaked, so returned to these. Not cheap, so look for deals - Amazon's Subscribe & Save is best I've found."
"Without this and the Bjorn Babysitter Balance, we would never not have our kid in our arms. He loooves this gym, especially the monkey toy, and has learned to bat and kick better and better just from lying on its colorful mat. It's soft and pretty cushy compared to other gyms, too, and not as overstimulating. For the classy vintage-loving baby. Ha."
"That 1st week, we didn’t know where our baby‘d sleep--since he wouldn't sleep at all--but finally he settled into this Sleeper & has slept there since. Transitioning to crib soon (famouslastwords) but the Sleeper was great for our newborn era. Portable, durable, reclined. Wish it’d rock itself, but glad there’s no noisy/clunky motor. Definitely slip a cushy blanket behind where baby's head goes."
"People who say you don't need a video monitor DO NOT HAVE A VIDEO MONITOR. It is so fun, and not at all nerve-wracking to add visual to the baby-spying experience. This monitor is great, clear, reaches our backyard, and is cheaper than some fancier models. Highly recommended."
"Keeps your newborn secure and "snuzzled" into his carseat so he doesn't flop around. HOWEVER, it does get super hot, so be careful you're not cooking your baby on long car rides or when he's napping in his seat. My son is almost always sweating when we take him out. Maybe there's a better material for summer months/warm climates."
"There might be better baby clippers, but not for this cheap. I thought I was going to use an emory board to avoid the scary task of baby nail clipping, but that was impossible with those tiny nails. Now we do a combo of biting them off and clipping them off, usually when the baby's asleep. It remains the scariest thing ever."
"EVERYTHING KICKY PANTS IS AMAZING. The gorgeous colors and patterns and the suuupersoft bamboo fabric that doesn't fade and stretches perfectly and the little dots on the footies...sigh. If I had $100 in baby stuff credit, I would buy 4 items of Kicky Pants, it's that good. Already buying bigger sizes in clothes my son's growing out of, and wishing there were adult sizes..."
"A new mom friend of mine recommended this book, and I am so glad she did. It is hilarious, and eye-opening, and heart-wrenching and everything else. A writer's journal of her son's first year on earth, it is a seriously naked and exciting window into the adventure ahead. And just a great read, too."
"Great, versatile carseat, but lord - get a smaller one if you're not some kind of bodybuilding superhero. As soon as your baby has any significant weight to him/her, it will kill you to maneuver this thing, defeating the whole purpose of having a carseat that can leave the car."
"The iPhone is a godsend. When your baby wants to nurse 23 times each afternoon, pop in earbuds and let Netflix/Hulu entertain while the kid chows down. I know our mas & grandmas just stared at us lovingly for those 16 hours a day, but I bet they wish they’d had iPhones. Love baby, hug baby, talk to baby, and instead of resenting baby for utter (pun!) exhaustion and cabin fever, play Angry Birds."
