The "Greatest Hits" and "Ultimate Collection" are now put to shame. "Essential Kenny G" is 2 CDs, and 31 tracks of every major and minor hit of his. The obvious choices are here like "Songbird" and "Silhouette", but we also get a ton of other stuff. Throughout the 2 CDs we get hits, covers, soundtrack songs, Christmas songs, and more. It tends to jump around a bit, but it's all here and that's the important part. As a casual fan I can't think of one missing song. Some may not like the music of Kenny G, but I call it "Beautiful".

I absolutely adore Kenny G. His concerts are the best value and he hasn't gotten a big head (although he could). This CD is awesome. Anything he does is a part of our collection. Cannot believe we missed this when it first came out. Fabulous music.

This is the nice Kenny G compilation & the best one offered so far. It contains alot of Kenny's best hits & duets & the sound quality is terrific. But it is no way a complete collection. As was the case with his other G/H albums, there is not one song from Kenny's first 3 albums: Kenny G, G Force and Gravity represented here & that is a real shame because IMHO, they contain some of his most exciting & catchiest songs. Granted his funky R&B style during the early 80's was quite a bit different from say the "Wedding Album" but they should still have gotten some notice here. Songs like "Tribeca", "G-Force" & "Japan" would have fit in nicely on this collection & sound very similar to the pop/rock style of his Duotones album which thankfully is represented here. Other than that though, this is a fine collection & it offers a great overview of Kenny's long & successful career.

On a side note, i'm gonna give this album 5 stars instead of 4 so that I can counter some of the Anti-Kenny G trolls that are doing all the 1 star "reviews" here.

I bought a copy of the essential- Kenny G from Singapore HMV and is found to be the taiwanese version (so called hongkong's version). It replaces three songs from the US version that is G-Bop, Januari, Jasmine flower etc. This is a nice collection and is recommended to those whom are interested in this genre of music. I bought this version as it includes the better/nicer music title that include morning, going home, the moment, jasmine flower, songbird, theme from dying young, sihouette and forever in love. The music midnight motion is also another not bad music as it shows Kenny G talent in playing with crerenade or etc. That's all.

My wife and I watched a feature about Kenny G on television. We both enjoyed the excerpts of his music, and thought that we would enjoy more of it. This we found to be true, however we like only so much of it. We like the CD in small doses, but we don't feel it has become a classic that we choose to listen to frequently.

I really like this 2-cd set of Kenny G songs. However, the Midnite Motion version (one of my favorite songs) is live. I have never cared much for live recordings. I wish the Duotones album version of this song was on the cd instead of the live audience version. Other than that, I think a great effort was made here to compile all of Kenny's best songs. What I would love to have is a boxed set of Kenny G's recordings. That would make my jazz collection complete! I would recommend this set to any serious Kenny G fan!

"The Essential Kenny G" is a beautiful and very complete compilation of Kenny's discography over the years. You can enjoy almost everything in his catalog, without strange absences among the chosen songs. There are some amazing recordings of his beginnings, like "Slip Of The Tongue" and all the best songs from day one until now.
It is the most fantastic way to have a big part of Kenny G's discography together. You will feel your soul moved so deeply that this one will become one of your very favorites.
Kenny G is the best sax player all over the world, as his sales show, and he keeps the magic of making us vibrate listening to a theme, even though the last time we did so was a long time ago. His "power" is always there.

I've always enjoyed Kenny G and this album is no exception, but while reading some of the customer recommendations posted on this site I discovered a group by the name of MEHDl (pronounced medie). After an online search I found their site (S00THINGMUSIC,C0M) and listened to the samples...
I was instantly blown away by the quality of this music and so I gave it a try and now that I have listened to these CDs several times I really must say that although I'm still a Kenny G fan, I find MEHDl to be a great addition to this CD. I have them both in my multi-disc CD player and love the way they compliment each other. I highly recommend that you give this artist a try or atleast just go listen to the samples, I have a feeling you'll be glad you did.

Just a personal opinion here, but "Essential Kenny G" strikes me as a bit of an oxymoron. But I'm not a fan of Kenny G, at all, so don't go by me. My mom asked for this for Christmas, and like a dutiful daughter, I purchased it. I'm giving it 4 stars even though it makes my ears bleed because my mom really likes it and it has a whole bunch of songs (2 cds) for a great price.

The CD is great, it has so many wonderful songs and they cover several decades.
