The "Greatest Hits" and "Ultimate Collection" are now put to shame. "Essential Kenny G" is 2 CDs, and 31 tracks of every major and minor hit of his. The obvious choices are here like "Songbird" and "Silhouette", but we also get a ton of other stuff. Throughout the 2 CDs we get hits, covers, soundtrack songs, Christmas songs, and more. It tends to jump around a bit, but it's all here and that's the important part. As a casual fan I can't think of one missing song. Some may not like the music of Kenny G, but I call it "Beautiful".

This is the nice Kenny G compilation & the best one offered so far. It contains alot of Kenny's best hits & duets & the sound quality is terrific. But it is in no way a complete collection. As was the case with his other G/H albums, there is not one song from Kenny's first 3 albums: Kenny G,G Force and Gravity represented here & that is a real shame because IMHO, they contain some of his most exciting & catchiest songs. Granted his funky R&B style during the early 80's was quite a bit different from his newer material but they still should have gotten some notice here. Songs like "Tribeca", "G-Force" & "Japan" would have fit in nicely on this collection & sound very similar to the pop/rock style of his Duotones album which thankfully is represented here. Other than that though, this is a fine collection & it offers a great overview of Kenny's long & successful career.

On a side note, i'm gonna give this album 5 stars instead of 4 so that I can counter some of the Anti-Kenny G trolls that are doing all the 1 star "reviews" here.

Happy listening.

I absolutely adore Kenny G. His concerts are the best value and he hasn't gotten a big head (although he could). This CD is awesome. Anything he does is a part of our collection. Cannot believe we missed this when it first came out. Fabulous music.

As a general rule, I don't buy CDs anymore. The only exception is if the CD offers something impossible to find or really incredible. In this case, I bought the CD for the liner notes. Given that Kenny G songs don't have lyrics, I've always wondered what inspired them or what they were about. You listen to the songs and your mind interprets them in various ways, but you never know if it's the same thing the artist had in mind. When I read that this particular album came with commentary on each song, I cringed a little at the idea of buying a CD and then hit the "purchase" button.

I'm glad I did. Not only is it a good album (even though I already own copies of all the songs in MP3 format) - it's just cool being able to read through Kenny G's notes on each song. I've seen him in concert twice now, and while he's an incredibly warm and entertaining guy, you don't hear a lot of commentary on the specific songs. This was a nice change of pace.

The Essential albums, are truly the best compilation ever!!. That's because it always includes ALL the hits from the artist, no matter if is a man or a woman. The Essential of Kenny G is a great album to listen to. Obviously, it includes Kenny G's best works. This is really, a great collection to must have. The Essential of Kenny G has great and relaxing music. Once you start listening to the collection of tracks, it submerges you into a relaxing and piece full environment.

Review of: Essential Kenny G.

The "Essential Kenny G" is a compilation of 31 tracks on 2 CD's of his best or "essential" works. The breakdown is as such:
Disc: 1
1. Songbird
2. Sade
3. Slip Of The Tongue
4. Don't Make Me Wait For Love
5. Silhouette
6. Against Doctor's Orders
7. What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)
8. Brazil
9. Theme From Dying Young
10. We've Saved The Best For Last
11. Forever In Love
12. Midnight Motion
13. By The Time This Night Is Over - Kenny G with Peabo Bryson
14. Loving You
15. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
16. Sentimental
Disc: 2
1. What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong with Kenny G
2. Morning
3. Sister Rose
4. Even If My Heart Would Break - Kenny G & Aaron Neville
5. The Moment
6. Summertime - Kenny G & George Benson
7. Missing You Now - Kenny G & Michael Bolton
8. Pick Up The Pieces - Kenny G featuring David Sanborn
9. My Heart Will Go On (Love Theme From "Titanic")
10. Beautiful - Kenny G featuring Chaka Khan
11. Havana
12. Going Home
13. The Way You Move - Kenny G featuring Earth, Wind & Fire
14. Medley: Deck The Halls/The Twelve Days Of Christmas; Deck The Halls\ The Twelve Days Of Christmas
15. Auld Lang Syne (The Millennium Mix)

The track selections come from almost his entire discography. The songs that made him famous (Songbird, Silhouette, etc.) stand alongside lesser known, but equally compelling ones. In my opinion this is the best of the "best of" making it essential. Love it. Five stars without hesitation.

It's excellent. The case was broken. I don't like filling out these lengthy surveys. I have a iPad and it is time consuming to be required to write so much. This process should be simpler. I refuse to fill out so many surveys this long!

I really like this 2-cd set of Kenny G songs. However, the Midnite Motion version (one of my favorite songs) is live. I have never cared much for live recordings. I wish the Duotones album version of this song was on the cd instead of the live audience version. Other than that, I think a great effort was made here to compile all of Kenny's best songs. What I would love to have is a boxed set of Kenny G's recordings. That would make my jazz collection complete! I would recommend this set to any serious Kenny G fan!

I love Mr G's music. It's beautiful and soothing. No singing but key fingering into amazing pieces of work. If you like jazz music, then Kenny G is amazing for that. Get it now!
