Authors Gustafson and Frisk present simple arithmetic, geometry, and algebra concepts in a way that vividly shows how the language of numbers plays an integral role in day-to-day life. Because Essential Mathematics with Geometry is more comprehensive than most workbooks and reaches up into the topics of intermediate algebra, it provides the prerequisite background for either a college algebra or a finite mathematics course. Effective in both the classroom and the laboratory, this is one book that contains numerous features that help bring mathematics down to earth.

4.0 out of 5 stars good at the high school level, January 9, 2005
This review is from: Essential Mathematics with Geometry (Paperback)
A good high school text that goes over a broad span of maths. The concepts are covered thoroughly.

Polynomials are covered, with a brief excursion into the problem of factoring these. The coverage of geometry is taken into analytic geometry. With discussions of how to graph linear equations and inequalities, and how to find slopes of lines.

Each chapter contains a problem set at its end. Useful for students willing to devote time to them.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is a mathbook..., September 23, 2011

This review is from: Essential Mathematics with Geometry (Paperback)
There is nothing astounding about the book itself, it is a mathbook. However, I have learned some new techniques for solving problems that used to give me a fit when I was in high school. Overall, if it is still in circulation next semester, I would recommend it to anyone seeking to teach an entry level math course, that begins where 7th or 8th grade general math ends.
