Mercedes-Benz coupes & cabriolets, August 27, 2010
This review is from: Essential Mercedes: Coupes, Cabriolets & Saloons 53-67 (Paperback)
This is the second edition I have purchased of essential Mercedes. my first was back many years ago the Essential Mercedes SL which covered the 300SL Gullwing, 190SL and The Pagoda SL. I was truly expecting more detailed pictures on the W111 coupe & cabriolet. The book does cover the 180D and the 300SE W111 & W112 plus the fintail Sedans of the early 1960's.
The W111 started out as a classic design by Paul Bracq. an already seasoned designer. This book stars out with the 180D and progress on ward with early development of the fintails , safety and then proceeds to the fintails , rallying
development of the 220SE/ 280SE M130 Six cylinder,. The W112 300SE Six cylinder same engine as the mighty 300SL a very rare automobile with air suspension, coupe & Cabriolet and the 280SE/9 3.5 V8 with the M116/117 motor. end of the line for these magnificent hand made cars to leave singlefigen. Only 1,400 examples left to the USA in late 1971. They are now prized collector cars.
I was expecting more picture s to document a restoration, however I cannot truly blame the author as when this book was written these automobiles were still in their infincy. They know command prices of $150,000 up to $3000.000 for a perfect last year 280SE/3.5 Cabriolet.
I give this book a rating of 4 stars

Classic Mercedes, January 27, 2003
This review is from: Essential Mercedes: Coupes, Cabriolets & Saloons 53-67 (Paperback)
If you have a car like this or want a car like this, or have a car book collection, you should probably get this book. It's the best one for these cars in English. A definite reference book.
