You like dance music?....you BETTER have this !,

Ok let me start off and say that this entire cd is dope, and flows to perfection. There are not many breaks cd's I can let play all the way through, because there is usually bits of boredom and dullness in between tracks, however;this is a huge exception. This is by far Icey's best and one of the best dance albums ever released. This albums full of electro and funky breaks, afterall thats what Icey is well known for."Essential Mix"will make you bust a move on the dancefloor,or keep driving for days, because you'll get lost in the incredible music. If there's one breaks cd besides Baby Anne's "Bass Queen in the Mix 1"I'd recommend it'd definetly be this one. What are you waiting for,go get it.

I just picked up this cd yesterday and it has not left my cd player yet.....it is an AWESOME mix of funky breaks, electro funk, and breaks that anyone who calls themself a fan of techno music should have.....Novy vs. Eniac's "Pumpin" is probably the best track I have heard in MONTHS.....absolutely mind-blowing. Go get this cd NOW!! Icey's best cd yet....I hope to see more Essential Mixes by other artists.

Every album that DJ Icey releases always takes me by suprise - he keeps improving his skills while staying true to the funky breaks and electro beats that have made him so well known. In this appropriately named Essential Mix he throws in his own music along with other electro beat DJs and even threw in some progressive house to sweeten the mix. Overall this is a fast-paced funky mix that is essential to your DJ Icey/electro break collection. I would recommend this album to anyone new to this style of techno or hardcore fans - it deserves more than five stars.

This mix is probably one of the best breaks cd's i have heard this year. Icey has plenty of Cd's out there but only 3 are available at common stores. Funky breaks,Generate and essential mix are available everywhere and Break to the Beat 1+2,Continouus play, Mixed and Selection you get at DJ stores. This Cd is probably leading the top with Selection and Funky Breaks. If you are an Icey fan this record is a must: It leads you from smooth icey breaks to fat banging beats you only heard him spinning on south florida raves so far. I would even say this Cd is for everybody you likes electronic music just because for the awesome track selection and the variety. If you need help finding rare icey or breaks cd's let me know: mschaerf@hotmail.com.

Essential Mix an Appropriate Name,
This review is from: Essential Mix (Audio CD)
...I absolutely love it!! There is a good variety of sounds and styles all blended into one nice long flowing groove. It's techno. It's dance. It's rave. It's house. It's funky. It's hard to stand still. (okay, so I'm not a professional music critic; but I am a music lover from WAY back!) The most notable tracks are "Purple" (infectious and upbeat), "Party Going On" (semi-euro housy Amsterdam meets Miami kind of thing), "Pumpin" (an interesting experience which eventually bursts into extreme dancefloor exhaultation at the 2 1/2 minute mark), and my favorite "Everyday" (excuse me, but is that a Diva in my living room? well then light the strobe and crank up the volume!!). Overall I would say it is an excellent CD and it satisfies the musical gypsy in me. I recommend it highly.

One rainy afternoon I was surfing on Amazon and this CD came up as a recommended CD. So I bought it. A few days later I slipped it into my player and from the very first song I became one of the "converted". Where has this gem been hiding? I absolutely love it!! I've loved Icey since I first heard "the air is full of sound", "hello", and "electro morning". His sound is so damn tight, fresh, fun, and smooth!! Fans of Icey will not be dissapointed with this CD. Compared to his other jams, it's more funky than earthy; not a bad thing though and it actually feels timely and progressive. I tell you I just can not stop playing this CD. My fav for the year!

I was first introduced to DJ Icey's work on Faith No More's Ashes to Ashes remix. I then started to dig further into his work and love it. My friend DJ Kamikazee lived down in Florida and told me about the cool scene down there, or should I say hot scene? I recommend anything DJ Icey's ever put his flavor on. Please come back to Minnesota.

Honoring a great Essential tradition,

The "Essential" series is, in my opinion, the greatest dance music series ever made, and it will never be topped. I bought this album the day it arrived, simply because of the title and that familiar little symbol on the cover. I also own Icey's "The Funky Breaks" which is decent, but not mind blowing. But this newest Essential Mix will blow your mind, and so much more. First off, the mixing is flawless. Icey's beautiful track selection and mixing skills are out there for all to see. Secondly, in proud essential tradition, out of its 16 tracks, over half of them stand out as the type of track that can make even a poor mix worth listening to. This is not a poor mix, so have a change of pants on hand, because this CD is orgasmic. The most "Essential" tracks on the disc are "Dooms Night" by Azzido da Bass, "Smokebelch II" by The Sabres of Paradise, and, of course, Novy vs. Eniac's incredible "Pumpin". Buy this album at all costs. Plus, if you like this album--wait, scratch that, if you breathe oxygen...you will love the other Essential CD's. The best are Essential Selection Volume 1 (fatboy slim and paul oakenfold) and Essential Millennium (pete tong, fatboy, and oakey). If you haven't heard these CD's, you haven't lived.
