"modern" rauhofer,

well if you're a fan of mr. rauhofer you'll definitely enjoy riding through this 2 disc set. disc one starts out like most of his work. some sexy latina pussy cat spewing erotic echoing lyrics from the mouth while undertones of electro-tribal warehouse beats fill it's glowing industrial air. as usual he does a smooth job of layering his fades in and out. track 3 shows signs of sounds from the detroit minimal-tech genre similar to that of Aril Brikha. tracks 4-8 are a little repetitious and run together. track 9 has racey drum line with intermittent sounds of lasers backed by a nice steel drum flavor. it's very sacraficial sounding. the final track, track 10, on disc one, is by far the most diversified on the that disc. kind of trancey but keeping his tribal flavor present. great male lyrics. a progressive but yet subtle bassline. very nice.disc 2 starts out with a quick high-tech pace and then slips into a nice slow roll and eventually reaches and then falls in and out of some sweet down tempo beats. he takes you right into the familiar sound of Suzanne Palmers "hide u". always nice to hear. tracks 3 and 4, to me, felt more like filler than originality. track 5 picks up the pace again with a throaty male vocal overriding sounds of intermittant dripping water, snares, etc. the transition from 5 to 6 was shaky. track 6, 7and 8 more filler. i enjoyed "Lula" track (..). finally 9 and 10 on disc 2 shine right up there with the final track on disc 1. atmospheric beats with high current floating prongs on track 9 lead me right into a funky drum and bass, dee lite feel but not as disco-ee. lyrics remind me of Pet Shop Boys. nice electro funk ending to a fun ride. nice job Mr. Rauhofer. i think he could of kept this piece of work to just 1 disc though. 3 stars at best but a nice addition to any collection.

tHiS cD iS HoTT!!,

If you like hard tribal with just a touch of vocals and a hint of techno def scoop up this this cD. Peter's technique and track selection always makes me wanna dance, and this cd follows suit. Very energetic and flows nice throughout, full of hard basslines and smooth mixing. If you bought this cd just for "days go by", you have no clue and were better off buying the dirty vegas cd single! This is for the real clubbers/dancers/hard-house/tribal fans!

Peter Rauhofer - Afterhours Circuit Party GOD!,
By
This review is from: Essential Mix (Audio CD)
Peter Rauhofer is once again, superb! This collection takes you on a journey into HIS world. Peter plays in clubs all over Los Angeles and San Diego. He's one of our favorites (my partner and I). Anybody into the gay L.A. afterhours, circuit scene will certainly hear familiar tracks on this set. Just putting this CD in my player makes me want to drive to the Mayan in downtown L.A. and work up a sweat dancing to Peter all night (and morning) long. It's dark and heavy on the bass.......so sweet!

I bought this and Live @ Roxy 1 the same day, and between the two, this is the winner. The other one just plain sucked. It was generic and boring, and when i reviewed it i gave it one star. This one has much more substance to it. I was a little surprised though - I expected the first CD to thump and the 2nd to be more mellow, but here that's reversed. I found the first to be less energetic and a little more laid back. The second CD had a higher energy to it. I liked the tracks on both, especially the ones by Black Sun Project, Airmale, and Ballroom on CD 2. I probably won't be buying anymore of Rauhofer's CDs, but Essential Mix kept my purchases from being a complete waste. If you like this one though, I would recommend Steve Lawler (esp. Lights Out vol 1) and Saeed and Palash's Addictive Beats.

Peter Rauhofer...before he turned into "Roxy" superstar,
By
This review is from: Essential Mix (Audio CD)
I think that this is the best mix that Peter has put on CD. It really tops anything he's done, so far (Live at Roxy vol 1 is a REALLY close one, though). Here, he's deep and rough, and is giving us a glimpse of his now-infamous "sound". Yes, I agree, the mix can seem to be dragging on at times. But once you listen to all of these tracks singularly, you can fully appreciate them. Airmale's debut tracks are included on this mix, as well as various other hard to find gems like Vidal, Alma Matris, and Black Sun Project. Pick this up if you REALLY want to know where Peter's foundation lies.

Days go by....,
This review is from: Essential Mix (Audio CD)
Admittedly I purchased Essential Mix some time ago simply for the Dirty Vegas track "Days gone by" before it was re-released on the back of the Mitsubishi Car advert. For me, it was worth the money (and the wait) for that track alone. However, as a compilation over two CDs it tries to do too much. There are too many filler tracks, that let the whole feel of the mix down. Rauhofer would have done better to take the best from both to make a truly worth while single CD mix that you could listen to from start to finish without skipping.

Doesn't Hold Up Over Time,

Don't get me wrong, I think Rauhofer is tops in afterhours hard house and tribal but "Essential Mix" doesn't stand the test of time....its labored, drags on and won't stay in your top cd rotation. There aren't hidden gems on this one that you'll want to come back to in a month or so....if your looking for Rauhofer at his best, check out Live @ Roxy.....because live is where the man shines !! Either volume of Roxy Live (1 or 2) is vastly superior to this one !!

Too dark,
By sandra583 "sandra583" (Villa Park, IL United States) - See all my reviews

I bought this album mainly because of the Dirty Vegas Song/ Days go by and expected a CD with the same upbeat, danceable sound. Unfortunately Dirty Vegas' song is the only good one on the entire album, the rest is very dark almost hardcore-techno like music. I am definitely disappointed.
