5.0 out of 5 stars Raw and Hot, just what the blues is meant to be, July 1, 2009
This review is from: Essential Montreux (Audio CD)
This audio collection showcases Gary Moore's shows at the Montreux Jazz Festival from 1990-2001, right after the "Still Got the Blues" album. By that time, he quit rock music and moved on to his first passion which is the blues. He plays with great feeling and his voice is filled with anger and sorrow. His show in 1997 takes a different beat. At the time, he was promoting his "Dark Days in Paradise" album. The music is different, but the professionalism and feeling is the same. All shows are the exact soundtracks to the 2-Disc DVD set of the same title, but more songs are included. This is a perfect collection for any blues/guitar/Gary Moore fan. It showcases the fiery blues with great passion and Gary Moore's versatility and virtuosity is apparent when viewing or listening to this collection.

Wow nice to get some quality audio releases from these incredible shows. This is a great collection of live shows from across the years for his amazing shows at Montreux. For fans of his hard rock years this set isn't for them. If you have been a fan of his across all aspects of his career then this is the set for you. Although some of his hard rock songs do show up on here it's the blues numbers that really shine. The set has been released (for the most part) on a two set DVD, there are several tracks that were not released on the set. This makes for a compelling reason to get this set. Is it expensive, Yes. Is it worth it, YES. The one thing I would like to see is more of the rest of his live career appear in a nice format like this, Would love a nice full live set from BBM or Colosseum II, or from his tour for the Black Rose LP with Thin Lizzy. Let's go Virgin Record either open the vaults yourself or have another smaller label do it. Wounded Bird Records comes to mind. Doesn't really matter who releases them let's just get them out to the fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still Got the Blues, September 11, 2009
'Still Got the Blues' grabbed my ear the first time I heard it. The tone Moore gets in the studio cut is unbelievable.
This box set is a quality live production. It follows Mr. Moore in his live performances for nearly a decade of shows at the Montreux Festival in Switzerland.
I highly recommend this box set for anyone with an ear for the blues!
Check out 'All Your Loving Pretty Baby...Mayall must be proud to hear this song from an early 'Blusesbreakers' album reincarnated with exquisite taste.

I bought this box set today. I didn't have time to listen to it all, I just picked the 1990 cd and listened till the song "texas strut". Oh, let me tell you people, this is not just music this is music above all music, it puts all music to shame. I was thinking to throw all my cd's away after listening to some of this. I have all kinds of cd's from north, west, south, and east. This is the best I have heard. Thank you Gary for the music. It is worth every penny and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you could only take one CD box with you, October 27, 2011

Little did I know that the concert in 2010 in Montreux would be the last time I would see Gary live. For those that don't know his work: play the last song on CD 1: the Messiah will come again. If you don't appreciate what an artist he was and this does not give you goosebumps, nothing will. The box has lot left my car ever since purchased: filled with many gems and excellent sound quality, but again, if you had to pick one. Last track CD 1: man will I miss this. RIP
