2.0 out of 5 stars Flawed!, May 20, 2010

This review is from: The Essential Nigerian Cookbook (Paperback)
If you want pretty pictures of Nigerian classics, or to be able to put a name to that dish you were served at that party, then this is the cookbook for you.

However, MOST of the recipes are flawed. Some are entirely useless.

The "egusi soup recipe" does not list "egusi" anywhere in the ingredient list and does not say how much to add.

The "beju coconut and cassava biscuits recipe" does not list ingredients at all.

The recipe for "jollof rice" calls for 1- 16 ounce can Tomato paste, but begins with "1. Wash tomatoes..."

The "chin-chin" has baking POWDER in the ingredient list, but baking SODA in the method.

And so on, and so forth...

Other recipes are just vague.

The method for "yam porridge" doesn't tell when to add the yam.

The "suya" recipe doesn't give a clue as to how many roasted peanuts to add to the mix.

And so on, and so forth...

On the one hand, I wasted my money. On the other hand, I will be able to use this book to teach my students how disappointing a poorly edited publication can be.

1.0 out of 5 stars The most over priced flat cook book ever!, January 31, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Essential Nigerian Cookbook (Paperback)
I am short of words at how i feel about this book, i just feel i have wasted my money for a book that has got nothing in it! Fake recipes that are not well described! How can anyone write a book this cheap and sell it at apprx. $17! This is the worst book i ever bought on Amazon and if i had the time, i would have returned this item! Please for anyone who wants to purchase a book on west african cooking(Nigeria), the 'my cooking west African cookbook' is just perfect and has a lot of recipes and goes for only $12. You wont imagine the huge box this flatbook came in...soooo annoying!
