I ordered this book to add to my Natural Health library for pets.
As a regular reader of "Preface" and "About Author" pages, I started reading them in Dr. Shelton's book. An interesting evolution from conventional veterinarian to the Oily Vet. But what is most valuable to man and beast is what happened to her baby, herself, her family and then the pets she treats. It is the eye-opener which makes this book the gem it is.

Goodness, if only people will learn and understand the evil poison corn syrup and all its various forms is and what major damage they do to the human and animal body. Between these manipulated sugars, also artificial sweeteners, our systems do not know how to process them and thus the many allergies, skin problems, cancers and all the other diseases which have been plaguing people and pets since about the 1970s when corn syrup was introduced and placed into almost everything, in ever increasing numbers. Why do we have to have corn syrup in dog food? Just read the labels. It is insane.

If we want to stay and get healthy, we must take responsibility for our own and our dependents' well being. Books like Dr. Shelton's book are great additions to such education.

I very much like the inclusion of not only therapeutic essential oils, but also the nutritional supplements that can and should be added to pets' regular nutritional regiments.

The section on arthritis in dogs (pg. 65-70)is excellent and probably will add many happy years to many a pet, even if they currently suffer. Good information for horses, birds, and other pets. There is a great section on the issue of cat litter - more information worth the book.

I do not know Dr. Shelton, but if her office were within a 100 mile radius, I'd be heading her way for my pets' maintenance.

The one thing I find missing and urgently suggest to be included in future editions is an INDEX.
When in a hurry, an index makes life so much easier.

This book, in my opinion, is a big waste of my money. I could kick myself for spending almost $40. on this little paper back. It's large print, and she has filled the pages with lots of pictures of animals and each page has maybe two to three paragraphs. That's it! It is a thin book with little information. I have a cat. There are about 17 pages in this book for cats (a lot of pictures of cats) and not that much info. She doesn't even tell you what to do for fleas!
If I had paid $9-$10. for this thin book, then I would be ok with it. SAVE YOUR MONEY.

The author used this book, in my opinion, as a means to build her multi-level essential oil business. I felt like I paid for someone to give me their sales pitch. I'm not saying the product she sells isn't any good, I'm just saying I feel she wrote this book to further her oils business. She labeled this book "The Veterinarian's Desk Reference". I was expecting a thick book full of information. There are much better books out there on how to use oils on animals-as well as information on the internet and for free or a lot less money. Sorry, doc. You are way out of bounds on what you charged for this one!

I bought this book and then received her latest book "Animal Desk Reference" I would just buy the ADR if your serious about using essential oils on animals, as it's more comprehensive and only a bit more money but totally worth it!!

This book is great if you are new to essential oils and just want some basic ideas. I expected a lot more information but I'd also just spent a few months researching specific remedies on line as well as reading the EO Desk Reference. I expected deeper insights and uses for a myriad of issues and diseases but there were very few "formulas" for very few ailments and only basic common things. Dr. seems like a wonderful person with lots of knowledge. Her advice and wisdom was good. I just expected more technical information, details, maybe stories from experience and lots and lots of different uses. Nice book, just not at all what I was hoping for.

It meant a lot to me that the experience with these particular Essential oils and cats, had came from a vet. I trusted the advice and I found answers to my questions concerning cats and oils.

I work with a no-kill cat rescue organization and we are constantly dealing with sick cats. I really needed the entire book to be about cats only but the chapter devoted to it was extremely helpful. The dog chapter was wonderful and much needed for my own pets, but the entire book was fascinating whether I had a horse or a bird or a cow or a turtle! It was great information that the holistic community is craving!

Great book and very helpful information in using essential oils with animals. Easy to read and understand. The information could be helpful to other veterinarians and also lay people. Good pictures as well. I ordered a second book as a gift for another "Healing Touch for Animals", practitioner.
