Great book for anyone intersted in Delphi or Free Pascal,
By Some Guy (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Essential Pascal (Paperback)
I'm a self taught Delphi developer, and I was pretty convinced that I had at least the fundamentals down. I read this book and was surprised at how much new information I learned.
If you are new to Delphi, Kylix, Free Pascal, or any other dialect of Pascal, then this book is well worth your time. If you are an experienced Pascal programmer, then this book comprises the fundamental understanding of Pascal that you should already have, but may have missed. I should add (as someone that has followed the Delphi programming community for several years) that Marco Cantu is a well regarded technical expert on this subject. He also has the uncanny ability to take abstract and confusing concepts and explain them in an easy to understand manner. If you only buy one Delphi/Pascal book, you should buy one written by Marco Cantu (I have several). Great book!

Light weight,

This review is from: Essential Pascal (Paperback)
This book was a little light weight for me. I bought the book to assist in porting my applications from Delphi to Free Pascal running on Mac OS/X and Xcode. I wanted a book to serve as a modern, up-to-date reference and overview because I had not used Pascal for several years. It turns out the book is only a printed version of the author's html version and while not useless, it was not as valuable as hoped. My old Borland language manual, Lischner's Delphi in a Nutshell (In a Nutshell (O'Reilly)) or Kernan's Programming and Problem Solving with Delphi were probably more useful for a review and as references. The book is a good introduction to the basics of modern Pascal, but not a good reference manual.
