5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the first time owner
If you have just purchased your first pit bull or are just thinking about purchasing a pit bull, this is the book for you. I have owned two pit bulls for 6 months now and I purchased them without having any knowledge of the breed. They are great dogs and are eager listeners, but there are alot of things that I learned from the book that are very helpful. This book...

2.0 out of 5 stars You May Be Dissapointed
If you have the book 'The American Pit Bull Terrier' by Jacqueline O'Neil you will be very dissapointed with this book. The Essential Pit Bull is basically just a revision of the O'Neil APBT(American Pit Bull Terrier) book with different pictures and a tiny bit added(but mostly it's all just rearranged). The pictures are dissapointing too because they use the same...

This book will definitely make better dogs and me a better owner. The title fits the book, "Essential" for all owners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick Intro To A Pit Bull, January 22, 2008
This review is from: The Essential Pit Bull (Essential (Howell)) (Paperback)
This review will be short and to the point...

I recently rescued a dog that is mostly Pit mixed with Chow Chow and Mastiff. This book was a great intro to the characteristics of Pit Bulls. I didn't know a whole lot about Pits, so this book was very helpful to me. If you are considering a Pit as a pet and have never had one and don't want to read a book the size of a dictionary...this is great!

The pictures are dissapointing too because they use the same people's dogs over and over again inside the same house. But if you do not have the APBT book by O'Neil and don't know if you want the Essential Pit Bull or the O'Neil APBT book just pick whichever one you like best(I like the one by O'Niel better myself, it's cuter) And if after your decision you decide to get a second Pit Bull book I reccomend Pit Bulls for Dummies(I don't know if this site sells it but Pets Mart does)it's my 5th Pit Bull book I'm reading and it's great (and funny). And if you just must get another Pit Bull book 'American Pit Bull Terriers/American Staffordshire Terriers' by Joe Stahlkuppe is a nice and even has beautiful drawings.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Essential Pit Bull terrier, April 4, 2009
This review is from: The Essential Pit Bull (Essential (Howell)) (Paperback)
This book is very deep to my heart, The blue and white dog in the book is my little girl Xena "Woodsforest Diamond Diva" who was sadly put down at 9 years of age because of Canine Cerebal Ataxia which destroys the motor skills and balance of the animal, She was the best animal I have ever owned. There is a test for Ataxia now and I would have still bought her from the breeder if I had known this before hand. Xena was accutualy a American Staffordshire Terrier as she was only regestered with the AKC. You will not find better family dogs than this breed but do your homework on the issues that face these great animals before hand so you get a healthy animal to give you years of love. God Bless you Xena!
