The Essential Pomeranian, while only 92 pages long, contains a great deal of useful information for someone that is either a first-time dog owner or just new to the breed. But even if the information is already known, the pictures alone almost make the book worth the purchase price! It is full of adorable color illustrations. Besides, a pomeranian fancier can never have enough books about the breed!!

I was deeply disappointed with this book. Several years ago I bought 'The Essential Chihuahua' book; a phenomenal read & a must have for every chihuahua owner. I expected the same wealth of information from 'The Essential Pomeranian' but the publication is just a waste of good paper. The majority of the book is filled with EXTREMELY basic canine care information, and contains VERY few breed specific tid bits. The few it does have consists mainly of a short breed history, the AKC breed standard, and a limited informational on possible Pomeranian health issues. There is nothing in this book that cannot be obtained in under 3 minutes in a simple online search. This book was dull to read, impersonal, & boring. I own 3 chihuahuas and recieved my Pomeranian puppy as a suprise gift. I knew absolutely nothing about the breed. I discovered very quickly that Poms are a BIG personality dog in a teeny little body. Although every dog is different, to a degree you can expect breed to play a part in temperment. If you are looking to gain insight on personality traits, training tips, just general 'what to expect from a Pom' type info.....Don't buy THIS book. (I eventually found what I was looking for by simply picking up a Dog Fancy magazine at the supermarket and calling several reputable Pomeranian breeders from the listings in the back. Several were very happy to chat with me about all things Pomeranian.) The best way to describe 'The Essentail Pomeranian' is: A cookie cut basic dog care booklet. {Make sure your puppy has food & water at all times, Never leave a puppy alone unsupervised, The best way to potty train is to never let an accident happened in the first place} Seriously? Really?, REALLY? Urgh, Skip this book & buy your puppy a toy instead.

If you have a Pom, you need this book.
Outstanding info in a simple format.

this book was not at all what i was wanting. it was not very informative about the pomeranian or its background. also not much help for the dog owner, but because it was about my type of dog i kept it.

I'm getting a pomeranian in 3 weeks as of June 13 and I'm really happy I read this. This book really helped me into understanding pomeranians. Since my mom found out I knew so much about pomeranians she bought me one. This book is short and sweet. the guy at Borders reccomened it and I understand why. Thanks HOWELL BOOK HOUSE!!!!!!!!!
