4.0 out of 5 stars Not at all a bad intro, August 2, 2003

I can recommend this book (in addition to others, esp. Play Your Best Pool and Byrne's Standard Book of Pool) for incoming players (or experienced bar players who are not well read on some of the non-obvious intricacies of the game). Essential Pool isn't as in-depth as either of the above two, but does have useful information in it. I found it best to obtain many such books and read them all, because no one instructional pool author covers everything you need to know.

4.0 out of 5 stars A complete course, indeed., May 24, 2009

Covers all topics, and unlike Capelle's Play Your Best Pool which goes into greater detail and a fine book in its own right, Essential Pool even has a section on straight pool (aka 14.1 Continuous).

Well written, and interesting; I usually go back to this one alot, Byrne's New Standard Book of Pool and Billiards, and Ray Martin's The 99 Critical Shots in Pool.
