This is a must have for beginning to advanced guitar,

Artie does an excellent job in giving a blue collar description of essential guitar riffs for the acoustic guitar. I got a great deal out of it and I have been playing for 23 years. Well worth the investment. CD comes with it and helps the learning process greatly. A++

Excellent basic licks book,

I disagree with the individual that rated this book as a run of the mill licks book. I have a lot of licks books, too, and this one is definitely better than most. Artie's material, while mostly basic, is very useful in that it shows how even basic licks, when used tastefully, can make for excellent music. Most lick books just present static licks that may or may not have any relation to one another. Artie puts this material together in a way you can use musically and build on it to create your own music. My only criticism is that he goes through it all pretty quickly and it's sometimes hard to tell exactly where he is in the tab, but that's pretty minor. This book is really great when used along with Happy and Artie's Jam Along Blues dvd's. This book/dvd is definietly the best one I have for overall usefulness musically.

I've been playing for about four years, and I found this book and CD incredibly helpful. No fluff or unecessary information. Artie Traum has a gentle and non-egotistical style, and he explains the riffs simply and thoughtfully and then plays them. I read along in the book, then stopped the CD and played them myself. I found the riffs fun and even more fun when I could use the "building blocks" to build my own riffs. I highly recommend the book, especially considering the low price.

Just Another Riff Book,
By A Customer
This review is from: 101 Essential Riffs for Acoustic Guitar (Listen & Learn) (Paperback)
I have about seven years on the guitar and am always looking for new material to study. I ordered this book, flipped through it a few times, and put it on the shelf with about twenty other books that cover the exact same ground. Just your generic, run-of-the-mill, riff collection. The majority of the riffs are just scale runs in different keys! I suppose if you're just getting started and looking for blues/rock ideas this may work (though there are thousands of these types of books out there).
