Editorial Reviews

Review

101 Essential Rock Records: The Golden Age of Vinyl from The Beatles to the Sex Pistols is a lavish, oversized production packed with color album covers inside and out and notes on every page providing background, history and facts about the record's evolution. Also included is a photo of the record inside, as well as the front, back and interior covers of each vinyl record. Accompanying notes provide insights into the evolution of the group or individual, the record's critical reception, and its overall impact in the rock music world. What sets this apart from other coverages is its attention to detail: both front and back album jackets as well as many inside shots are included, along with photos of the record itself. Notes are well detailed, critical, and important keys to understanding the place of the album in the music world as a whole. Kudos! --Midwest Book Review, February 2013 Music Shelf - California Bookwatch

I learned a lot of things I didn't know about some of the records I already own as well as discovered new albums from reading this book.

Gave this to my brother who loved it, as did I - so my wife gave me a copy!

While the book does a great job celebrating the love of all things vinyl and LP, there's so much more going on here. This book, ostensibly about about the golden age of vinyl, has something equally valuable for CD enthusiasts and even digital music fans:a celebration of the role great mind bending life-changing music that crates passionate/opinionated record fanatics.

There are some bold choices (personally I love the inclusion of Laura Nyro's first album) some good argument starters(that's partially the point and part of the fun)and a celebration of under-heralded (and in some cases now vetted) classics by the likes of The Zombies, Skip Spence, and Vashti Bunyan.

The book is like taking a trip to the best record store you've never been to-without veering off into record collector ephemera for its own sake.

This is a must have for any lover's of vinyl records! I learned a lot of things I didn't know about some of the records I already own as well as discovered new albums from reading this book. It makes for a great coffee table book (albeit rather large) and a great conversation starter. If you have any love of vinyl or the history of rock music then you want to own this book.

A little too representative of the classic rock generation, but I imagine those who concerned about a coffee table that needs the right adornment will find the selection suitable. Certainly worked well for me and the person who enjoyed it as a gift.

I bought this as a gift for my husband, who is a vinyl collector. He loves it. Lots of great stories and album covers. I can tell his collection will grow because of this book.

Covered all the groups I grew up with, the crap produced today as far as music goes always has a tone of the past and you will see it through this book. "Listen" and look at the past using this book.
