Colorful and well written book,
This review is from: The Essential Shetland Sheepdog (Howell Book House's Essential) (Paperback)
This manual-sized book is full of gorgeous color photos of Shelties, although mostly tri-colored ones. It is very professionally written and informative, and also has a page in the back where you can record information on your dog, as well as add a photograph. The last page includes an airbrushed illustration of the general external features of the Shetland Sheepdog.

I'm planning on getting a shetland sheepdog and being the person I am, I'm buying books, researching, and asking everyone I know about their temperament and what not. This book is full of information that you can find on the internet by typing in " shetland sheepdog" Nothing new or exciting..a waste of money!!

This book is well written but if you've read any other books on the breed, the information may be too simple and not much more than what you've already read.
It makes a very good primer on raising a puppy/dog with the add bonus of a short history of the Sheltie breed. Unfortunately most of the information in the book is NOT breed specific, but either way it is a good read for those just getting into the joy of dog ownership and have chosen the Shetland Sheepdog (or Sheltie) for their first. It may also be a good refresher for those who are looking at getting a dog after a long absence from ownership. The information in this book is actually boiled down from another Howell's Book House book called The Shetland Sheepdog: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet. The chapters are arranged differently and some of the information from the larger book (The Shetland Sheepdog: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet) is not included in this book. You may prefer the larger amount of information found in the other book over this. The pictures, however, are all top notch and well chosen. Over all a good book that's easy to read and contains a nice top level amount of information on dog ownership but there isn't a ton of Sheltie specific info.

Very good , informative book. The book helped me decide what type of dog I need for my family. It also told me how to properly take care of a Shetland Sheep Dog.

The photographs brought out the beauty of the sheltie and the book helped me to better understand him. It's definately a plus for sheltie lovers and owners.
