This review is from: The Essential Student Cookbook: 400 Foolproof Recipes to Leave Home With (Paperback)
Firstly, this book is meant for a British audience. Some of the terminology used might be confusing to non-British readers.
Aside from that, this wasn't a particularly good book. There were no pictures to show what the recipes should look like when cooked, which I found disappointing. There was a lot of vegetarian meals, so the book is good for vegetarians. I'm not a huge veggie eater, so this didn't really suit me very well.
There were sections about how to live on a tight budget, but there were only a minimal amount of recipes listed for the whole week. Not much variety at all, really. The author assures that they would allow a balanced diet, but there were too many veggies and not enough meat for me.
I don't see myself really finding a use for 75% of this books recipes. There were also a lot of curry's and spicy meals, so if, like me, you're not big on those types of things, you're going to be disappointed.
Although this book is meant for students, I'm actually not one. I brought it because I thought it would still be a help to me as I am living away from home for the first time, and trying to manage on a budget and with limited cooking skills.
Not recommendation. I suggest readers look for a good, basic, recipe book. You probably don't need something targeted specifically at students-anything with simple, basic recipes will probably have plenty of variety in them without the hassle of complicated recipes.
