About the Author

Renato Perdon is a native Tagalog speaker now living in Sydney, Australia. He is an accredited translator both from and into Tagalog and also edits the Tagalog language section of the community newspaper Bayanihan News.

More About the Author

The author hails from the Philippines. Before migrating to Australia, he worked with the National Historical Institute of the Philippines for more than 20 years as historical translator and researcher and taught history at the Lyceum of the Philippines. He retired in 2007 as an archivist with the City of Sydney Archives, Sydney, Australia. He holds an MA in Asian Studies and a Graduate Diploma in Archives Administration (University of New South Wales), a Postgraduate Diploma in Museum Studies (Sydney University), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Spanish Major (Colegio de San Juan de Letran). He completed his undergraduate studies (BA in Political Science and BS in Foreign Service) in the Philippines. He has published articles and books on history, cultural conservation and heraldry, both in the Philippines and Australia.

The book is divided into section such as "emergency," "food," etc. Being someone who understands the language it's a nice refresher on how to speak when traveling. It does not have a pronouncination guide so someone who's still learning or has never spoken it may have trouble. It about the height/width of a paperback but thin. It can fit in a small purse, not so much in a "pocket."

This phrase book is awesome! I'm trying to learn tagalog so I use it all the time. My mother was really surprised when I started using some of the phrases of the book! It's really great and I would recommend it to anyone trying to learn tagalog.

I just adopted an older child from the philippines and this book was a great way for me to have some phrases to speak to him in his language. I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, as soon as he saw it he confiscated it to use with his friends!!! Now I'll have to order another one.
